I MASSAGE IMPLEMENT 'iled Jan. 1950 2 SheetQ-She'et 2 Patented July 1, 1930 CARL WEEKS, or nus MOINES, Iowa, assrenoa, TO THE. ARMANI) COMPANY, or IDES MOINES, IOWA MASSAGE IMPLEMENT Application filed January 6, 1930. Serial No. 418,817.
The object of my invention is to provide a massage implement of simple, durable and comparatively inexpensive construction, so arranged and designed that by use of such implement, the body massaged may receive such'treatment as is ordinarily afforded by a manual massage.
Still a further object is to provide a small implement, preferably formed of glass, having a tapered and curved exterior surface and one surface formed with a series of undulations so that the tapered and curved portions of the device may be engaged by the palm or fingers of the operator, with. the surface having the undulations therein arranged for contact with the body of the operator over the portions to be massaged.
end of the device comparatively small in cross section, so that such end, which may be referred toas the sharpened end, is capable of being worked upon the eyelids and around the nose with the'tendency to conform to the contour of the face.
receptacle adaptedto contain ice, cold water,
or a refrigerant chemical of any suitable kind whereby the implement may remain in a cold state while being used.
Still a further object is to provide a modified form having on the small end, a rubber applicator or other pliable massage member which may conform more readily to the contour of the face during massaging operations.
This application is a continuation in part of application Serial Number 400,090, filed October 16, 1929.
lVith these and other objects in view, my 50 invention consists in the construction, ar-
A further object is to provide a hollow rangement and combination of the various parts of my implement, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my de- I vice showing the ser es of undulations on the top surface thereof. 7
Figure 2 1s a top plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a side view showing the series 7 of undulations formed upon the top surface of the device. 7 g Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 1& of Figure 1, illustrating the cross sectional contour of the device.

Figure 6 is a sectional view on the linev 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of another modification of my implement. N Figure 8 is a perspective view of the closure element for the form of device shown in Figure 7 I Figure 9 is a sectional viewthrough the hollow implement; and H Figure 10 is a sectional View taken on the line 1010of Figure'9. My device maybe made preferably of glass, although it will be understood that, it may be made of any other substance,
which will retain a smooth surface at all times. a p v The device A includes what may be called a top surface 10, and curved side surfaces 12, and a bottom surface 14. The curved sides 12 and bottom 14 areadapted to be arranged in the palm of the hand of'the operator with the fingers arranged near the sharpenedend 16 of the device, while the blunt end 18 is received in the palm of the handl. h s
W ien t e device is ro erl ri ed so that the hand of at; iperiit r xteiid's around the sides and bottom, the top surface 10 is left for operation upon the parts of the body to be massaged.
For convenience in holding the implement, gooves 22 ma be formed along t e sides ereof into w ich the ends of the fingers of the operator may extend.
The top surface 10 is provided with a series of undulations or ribs and grooves 20. The ribs and ooves are of the so-called wave-like formation. There are no sharp edges or corners, which would tend'to irriio Mt eskmott-heo ratorwh h mp ement is used u on t c face or other tender parts of the b y.
In Figures and 6, I illustrate amod ified form of construction in which the small end 16 of the implement is made of rubber, "that than formedof the material of the of the implement. used efliciently to accomplish the same result.
One of the princi al advantages of my device resides in the act that it is so shaped and so arranged that practically any ordinar massaged portion of the body can be a ed 90. w y ev ce My device, has been in actual use and produces a very desired and beneficial result to the parts massaged.
When theform of device showninE-igures, 7 I 5 aud t) is used, the pliable applicator 16 conforms somewhat better to the contour of'the. face. and provides a better massaging action.
The smooth side of my device can like- 30 wise be used to chill the face of the user. Itwill be understood that my massa e implement is capable of meeting all con itions ofuse and therefore very desirable.
Some changes may be made in the aras rangementand construction of the parts of my massage implement, without departing from the essential features and purposes, of my invention, and it is my intention to cover 7 by my claims, any modified forms of conno structlon, or use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. A massage implement havin curved sides and a bottom, with a top sur ace provided witha series of undulations, and a pliable applicator mounted on one end of said implement.
2. A massage implement havin curved sides and a bottom, with a top sur ace provided with a series of undulations, said implement being hollow and having a mouth whereby a refrigerantelementmay be placed withinsaid implement and means for'sealin said month, said last means being pliab e and serving as an applicator.
3. A massa e implement substantially as shown and su tantially longlgr tgan 1t is c an tapered wide, and longer than it isthi htly n iformly and ymm rw r from end to end, andboth laterally and from top to bottom, said implement havin one comparatively large rounded end an one comparatively small rounded end. and a rounded Ott'om and an undulated top, and having a cross-section with a curved bottom, outwardly and upwardly tapered sides, and a straight top, with its side adjacent top surface free from undulations and provided with lengthwise finger-receiving grooves, spaced from itstop and bottom.
