Description
R. R. MORRISON. REVOLV'ING SHOW-STAND.
No.176,981. Patented May 2,1876.
Wl W2,
' NITED STATES ENOCH R. 'MORRISOJ PATENT OEEJ;
OE NEW YOEx, N. Y.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,981, dated May 2, 1876; application led October 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ENOOH R. MORRISON, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Revolving Stands for Exhibiting Goods 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
` `My invention consists in a novel combination and arrangement of a clock mechanism and a-revolving stand, whereby the stand may be readily removed, or turnedv in a reverse direction, Without stopping the motion of the driving mechanism.
In revolving showstands of ordinary construction, operated by clock-Work, the revolving portion is usually attached to a spindle which is rotated by the mechanism, and the stand cannot -be reversed or removed independently of the mechanism.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the revolving part with a .hollow central vertical shaft, to which are attached the shelves for holding the goods to be exhibited. This hollow shaft tits loosely over a spindle rot-ated by the mechanism, so as to rest upon and be carvolving stand constructed according to my invention. Figure lis a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. The clock mechanism may be of any suitable construction. It is attached to a base, A and surrounded by a casing, B, provided with a removable cover, G. Through the center of the cover passes a vertical spindle, D, which attached thereto. The shaft E is hollow for a distance corresponding with the length of the spindle D The stand is placed in position by dropping it over the spindle, so that the upper end of the hollow portion of the shaft will rest upon, and be carried by, the upper end ot' the spindie. Bythis means the stand is carried around by the rotation of the spindle by the clock- Work; and said stand may be readily removed from the spindle without stopping or inter- 'ering with the motion ot' the. clock-Work, or moved in a reverse direction by slightly rais ing it and turning it by hand.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a revolving stand for exhibiting goods, the combination, with a clock-work or other mechanism, and a spindle rotated thereby, of a removable stand provided with a hollow shaft, supported loosely upon and rotated by friction of said spindle, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
ENOUH R. MORRISON.
