WINDOW SCREEN Filed Oct. 18, 1926 (ID (ID (ID (ID GD INVEN R WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented July 1, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT v QFFICE THOMAS contest, or wns'r wrnnow sonnnn.
Application filed October 18, 1926. Serial .No. 142,406. J
This invention relates to'a screen fora window and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide improved means whereby the screen is constructed wholly of metal and can be manufactured to sell at low cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the wire mesh can be easi- Figure 1 is a view showing the screen in a window.
' Figure 2 is an edge view of the improved screen. V
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view through the screen.
Figure 4 is a view of a bar from which one ofthe sections of the screen frame is made. Figure 5 is a view showing how the meeting ends of the bar are connected together. I As shown in these views, the frame of the screen is formed of the two sections 1 and 2. Each section is formed of a bar ofmetal,
such as shown'at 3 in Figure 4:, with V-shaped 7 after which notches 4 cut at intervals therein, the bar is bent at these notches to form a rectangular figure, as shown in Figure 1. -The ends of the bar'are mitered, as' shown'at' 5,
- and overlapped and fastened together by a rivetor the like. The wire mesh B is placed t between the two sections and then the two sec tions fastened together, withthe wire mesh ing the screws with a screw between them,- by means of'the screws 6 which engage holes 7 formed in the sections.
Thus a screen ofconsiderable strength. is produced, the parts of which are all of metal and when the wire mesh is to be renewed, ethe frame sections can be taken apart by remov removing the old mesh and substituting the with the flat face of one section adapted to be .at the notches to between the two sections, one section having the holes."
driver or'the like,
NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS new mesh. Then the screws are put back to cause the sections to clamp the mesh between them.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and. novel features as of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the co scope of the appended claim.
' What I claim is z I A window screen comprising a pair of similarly shaped sections formed of fiat stock placed on the flat face of the other section, each section being formed from a bar provided-with three notches, withthe bar bent form a rectangular frame, withthe ends of the bar mitered and fastened 70 together, screen mesh having its edges placed threaded holes therein andthe other section having plain holes therein registering with the threaded holes when the sections are placed together and screws passing through' In testimony whereof Iaflix mysignature THOMASOONLEY.
