Description

G. E. WALTON.
VACCINE CASE.
N.176,716. Patented April 25, 1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
GEORGE E. WALTON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
,IMPRQVEMENT IN VACCINE-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 176,? [6, dated April 25,1876; application filed 7 March 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. WALTON, ofOincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Vaccine- Oase, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object the better preservation of the vaccine Virus, which quickly loses its active properties when exposed to- Aisthe body of the case, made of hard rubber or other desirable material, preferably in tubular form, and provided with a partition, B, which is either pervious or provided with perforations, as seen in the drawing. By this construction the'case A is separated into two compartments provided with lids G D, which are screwed upon the case and form an impervious joint by the introduction of a 1 dense and compressible substance, E.
. When the case is thus closed over the vac cine in the large chamber it is pert'ectly protected from outside moisture,Sand /barring moisture which might be closed in with it,
would keep an indefinite length of time, and.
perfectly retain its active properties; butit is also obvious that if moisture were inclosed with the vaccine the latter would soon deteriorate. Now, by the introduction into the small chamber of a moisture-absorbing material the moisture which may lodge in and permeate through the case after being closed or sealed can be entirely absorbed from both chambers by reason of the diaphragnrB, andbe thus prevented from aii'ecting the quality of the vaccine.
As seen-in thedrawing, the moisture-absorbing material is wrapped in cotton or other suitable material.
The case is of convenient size for the pocket and neatly made, with lids O D of -different conformation, so as to be readily determined the one from the other.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- For inclosing and preservingvaccine virus,
the sealing-case A, provided with diaphragnr B, either pervious or perforated, the .whole to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto.
set myhand.
GEO. E. WALTON.
