UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRIOK ZERNECK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CABINET-CALENDARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176, [18, dated April 11, 1876; application filed March 3, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDRIOK ZERNECK, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cabinet-Calendars, of which the following is a specification The nature of the present invention consists in a belt carrying the numbers of the days of the months of the years; in a belt carrying the names of the months and the number of days of each month; and a removable pocket, in which are placed strips of card-board designating the year by proper figures. These several parts are combined with a suitable case, in which there is a compartment for holding the extra card-board strips needed to indicate the years for a long period of time.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the face of the calendar set for February 29, 1876. Fig. 2 shows a section of the box or case with the belts on the rollers. Fig. 3 shows the pocketcase removed from the calendar. Fig. 4 shows a section ofthe pocket-case. Fig. 5 is a transverse section of Fig. 1, on line X.
A represents the ends, V the sides, T the back, W the glass front, and R the partition, of the cabinet or case, which, except glass, may be of wood or heavy straw-board, covered either with plain or ornamental paper, accordin g to the style of cabinet required. Between the partitions R R and side V V are placed rollers G G G G. On rollers G G is placed albelt, E, on which is marked the names of the months and number of days of each month. On rollers G G is placed a belt, 0, on which is marked the names of the days of each month, including the usual calculation for leap-years. A card-board, B, is placed over these belts, and holes are out through it to expose to View the figures and letters on the Belts, and there is printed on the card-board the first letters (S, M, T, W, T, F, 8,) of the days of the week, D, and also the word days, F, Fig. 1. A recess is formed in the top side of the cabinet, between the guides P, Fig. 2, to receive a removable pocket, H, in which are placed the strips of card-board which indicate the year. Four of the strips I are inserted in the pocket H at a time, and the remainder, required to indicate the years for along length of time, are stored in a pocket, L, between the partitions R B, a door, N, being hung to the back of the cabinet for closing the pocket and securely retaining the strips I.
The operation is simple, requiring only that the rollers be turned to the right to indicate the days of the month up to the leap-year, when the rollers G are to be turned to the left, and again commence at the end of the belt 0. The rollers G are to be turned also to the right to bring the proper month to View. At the end of each year the strips I have to be reset to indicate the year. This can be done by removing the pocket H and taking strips from the pocket L, and substituting them for the strips used for the expired year. i
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- ,A cabinet-calendar consisting of the case A V T W, rollers G G, belts C E, pocketcases H and L, strips I, with figures and letters, as and for the purpose set forth.
