OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY STOCKING PROTECTOR Application filed. August 7,
hand and is thus adapted for removaland carrying in a hand bag; and is shapely as it may have bands to cause it to adhere closelyto the leg in addition to a thin elastic water proof inside or outside face, as rubberized cloth.
The invention is illustrated in the aecom panying drawings in which Figure l is a perspectiveview showing my improved protector in place. Figure 2 is an enlarged section on line 22 in Figure 1 and Figure 3 is a detail section to show in'exaggerated form, the cross-sectional appearahce of the fabric. The protector is made of rubberized silk,- imitation silk, rayon, celanese or cotton or en tirely of rubber and is formed into a portion 10 for the leg and a portion 11 which extends down over the shoe. The device thus covers the silk stocking and extends down over the shoe to be worn over or under rubbers when rubbers are worn. It protects these parts from being spattered with mud and water as the cloth 12 of which the protector is made has a lining or inner or outer surface 13 applied as in any form of rubberized fabric.
The protector is usually made to provide a v neat fit and is as ood in appearance as a silk stocking. It can e made to insure a snug fit by elastic bands or tie straps, one being shown at 14, just below the knee, and one at 15, just above the ankle.
The bottom part of the protector is held down by a strap 16 which passes under the instep and may be fastened by a buckle or other suitable means or permanently attached as an integral part of the stocking.
To insure a snug fit at the instep the device may be provided with a frame and I show a wire frame 17 extending from the sides of the bottom and forming loops over the instep and over the heel as one form of frame to be used.
1922;; Serial no. 297,929.
It may be secured in place by stitching, cement or any other manner. 1
The'protector can .be quickly removed when going indoors and the stockings underneath are free from spots. The device can be folded to a small masson account of thethin materials used and can be easily placed in a small V bag or ladies hand bag. Y a I Various modifications can be made in the article without departing from the scope of the invention.
I claim A stocking protector comprising a continuous thin elastic fabric to fit the leg and to be supported over a stocking by its own elasticity, said fabric being waterproof and awire member incorporated in the foot portion of the protector, said member extending along both sides of'the foot and having loops to extend over the instep and around the back of foot above the heel.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
ALEXANDER B. DICKERSON.
