ISAAO O. KNOWLES, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATING COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [76,011, dated April 11, 1876; application file February 3, 1676.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC G. KNOWLES, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lubricating Compounds, which is fully set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to that class of compounds used in lubricating all kinds of rotating or sliding machinery; and it consists in a composition of various ingredients, among which are the following, which, with their proportions, Will now be described.
To prepare the compound for use:
First- Take pulverized hydrochlorate ..of ammonia 26 parts Nitrate potash. 4.0 Li1ne-water.. .445
511 and make them into a solution.
Second- Lard-oil .447 parts Soft Water 27 Cyanide potash 2 Nitrate silver l Spanish whiting l2 Mix the same and set it aside to settle; then pour 011' the top till it runs turbid; then take the two compounds, as above, and pour them into one vessel, and agitate briskly until thoroughly mixed, when a complete admixture is accomplished, holding all the weightier ingredients fully in suspension.
The compound is now ready for use; but to preserve it from deterioration it must be kept in hermetically-sealed vessels.
This compound, although specially designed for a lubricant, is'adapted as a liniment for man and horse.
