Description

J. ENGELKE.
HORSE COLLAR-PAD.
No.175.957 Pitented Aprilll, 1876.
NPEIERS, PHOTD-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JULIUS ENGELKE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-COLLAR PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. l 75,957, dated April 11, 1876; application filed January 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS ENGELKE, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Pad or Sheath for Horse-Collars, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to a new and useful attachment for those horse-collars which are capable of being opened at top, and is designed to render such collars more easy to the animal and more secure than the usual mode of fastening such collars.
With these objects in View, I provide for the meeting-ends of the collar a tubular sheath, sleeve, or neck-pad, formed in sections, having keepers and a strap for attachment of the sheath to the collar, which operates to securely hold and comfortably enwrap the collar ends, and to present, at all times, a perfectly smooth surface to the horses withers, and to afford, in connection with its strap, a convenient means of reducing or enlarging the capacity of the collar without breaking its continuity at any part or pressing too tightly on the animal, as is the case where elastic attachments are used as heretofore constructed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar sheath or pad embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an axial section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my sheath in position upon the collar.
A may represent any customary horse-collar of the kind which opens at top. B is the upper section, and B the lower section, of my tube or sheath, so formed as to properly inclose the separated ends ot' the collar. 0 G are two keepers, permanently fastened to the top of the sheath for. the retention of a strap, D, one end, d, of which is permanently fastened to the collar, while the other end, d, is perforated to engage over a stud, a, that pr0- jects from the collar.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A tubular horse-collar pad composed of the sections B and B, the upper section B provided with keepers (J and Q to receive the fastening-strap D, substantially as described.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JULIUS EN GELKE.
