PHILIP H. MARQUETTE, OF GILEAD, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT N HARVESTER-DROPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,128, dated March 21, 1876; application filed d May 8, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP H. MARQUETTE, of Gilead, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Adjustable Apron for Reaper-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making apart of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my platform-apron, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view; Fig. 4., a modification, and Fig: 5 a detail view.
This invention has relation to droppingaprons for harvesters, wherein a segmental platform is used in combination with a revolvin g rake; and the nature of my invention consists, mainly, in a tilting apron, which is pivoted to an adjustable rod, and arranged on the inner side of the platform, in combination with levers, hy means of which the driver can discharge the cut grain in gavels, and return the apron to a proper position for receiving grain raked from the platform, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed 'drau'ings,'A designates a quadrant-platform, having the Well-known cutting apparatus, also a'divider, B, and a grain guard, B. O designates a revolving rake, which is pivoted to a revolving post at the inner front corner of the platform A, and caused to rise and descend at proper times by means of a cam, a, which is secured to the piatform inside of a curved guard, 11.
The post to which the rake is pivoted may be rotated by any suitable means, and the piatform may be attached to the draft-frame in the usual manner.
D designates a shaft, which is rigidly secured to blocks 0 c, fastened to the bottom of the; platform by means of screws, which, when loosened, will allow these blocks to be adjusted forward or backward, carrying with them thashaft D, by the adjustment of which the power to be applied in tilting the platform may be varied. To the inner extension of the shaft D an apron, E, is pivoted, as shown in Fig. 1, which pivot will allow the apron to be tilted backward to discharge the grain upon the ground in gavels. This apron has a flange on its front end and inner side, and it is made of two sections, which are connected together in such a manner that they can be extended or contracted laterally for receiving more or less grain, as circumstances may require. To the inner side of the tilting apron E a rod, 0, is secured, which is set off from the inner flange of the apron, and on which a weight, (1, is adjustably secured. By means of this 1 weight the apron can be properly balanced on its pivot.
When apron E is in a position to receive grain from the platform, it is prevented from tilting too far forward by means of a rod, 0, extending from the inner side of the platform in front of the pivotal shaft D. G designates a .rod, to which is pivoted two arms, 9 g, which are free to vibrate forward and backward. The arm g is connected to the front end of the apron E by means of a link, h, and to the arm g a rod, *6, is jointed, by means of which the attendant, sitting on the machine, (draft-frame,) can tilt the apron at will, and discharge the gathered loads.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The quadrant-platform A, having the grain guard B, rake 0, adjustable shaft D, and rods e and G, in combination with the dropper E, arranged on the inner side of the platform, and operated by the rods 9 g, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The adjustable shaft D, pivoted to the dropper, in combination with the slot-ted blocks a c, adjustably secured on the lower face of the grain-platform, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
PHILIP H. MARQUETTE.
