Description

H. ALBRECHT.
l FLUTING-MACHINE. No.174,999. Patented March 21,1876.
UNITED lS:[A'IEs PATENT CFFICE.
- HERMANN ALBREGHT, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN'FLUTING-MACHIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,999, dated March 21, 1876; application led February 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern,-
Beit known that I, HERMANN ALBREGHT, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Fluting-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to an improvement in the dating-machine `for which Letters Patent No. 168,954 were granted to my assignees, the
American Machine Company, on the 19th day ot' October, 1875; and the Qbjectof my invention is to maintain the iiuted rolls in proper operating gear with each other.
In the accompanying drawing, Figurel is a front vievir of a utingmachine with my improvement; Fig. 2, a plan view, and Fig. 3 a detached sectional view, illustrating my invention. V
A is the base of the machine, and B the frame, having' two bearings, a and af, for the spindle d ot'- the lower uti'ng-roller D. An arm, d', projects from and forms a part of the frame B, and the turned-up end of this arm has a projection adapted to the interior ofthe lower Hating-roller, andserves as an outer bearing for the same, as described in the said patent. The spindle c` of the upper roller D has its bearings in a frame, G, which is pivoted to the frame B, so that it'can be elevated and depressed with the roller, and retained when depressed, in a manner too fully set forth in the said patent to' need description here. In the patent, however, both bearings for the spindle e of th'e upper uting-roller were permanent parts of the pivoted lframe; hence, when these bearings or the, portion of the spindle in contact with them became worn,
the outer end of the upper roller wasat libg erty to yield, and did not act properly on the fabric in conjunction with y the lower roller. In order to obviate this difficulty I construct thepivoted frame in the manner` shown in -Fig. 3, for the reception of an adjustable inrapidly than the outer bearing h.. When the yielding of the outer end of the upper roller indicates the fact that the bearing m or the portion of the spindle in contact with it has been unduly worn, all that is necessary is to 'depress the former until the upper utingroller is in proper operating gear with the lower roller.
I claim as my invention- The combination, in a fluting-machine,of the upper overhanging fluting-roller D, and its spindle c, with the pivoted frame G, its outer hearing h, and inner adjustable bearing m,all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
' HERMANN ALBREOHT.
