Description
H. SCHULTZ.
METHOD OF RAISING AND SCREENING SAND. No.174,981. Patented March 21,1876.
W/T/VESSES EJEI'ERS, FNOTD-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HENRY SCHULTZ, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN METHODS OF RAISING AND SCREENING SAND.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,981 dated March 21, 1876; application filed July 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY SCHULTZ, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Method of Raising and Screening Sand, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to raise sand from the bottom of a lake or river, and screen the same, suitable to be used in making mortar; and this I do by the use of a pump on a vessel or scow, and placing a spoilt with a screen or screens in it to receive the water and sand, and run it off-to any placewhere wanted, the sand being screened from the stones and impurities through the screens in the spout.
Figure l is a plan view of the pump and screen, and Fig. 2 an end view of the same.
A is the frame-work of the pump; B, the pump, which is a common one; D, the pipe, which extends down to the bottom, and through which the sand is raised; E, the spout, which 1 eceives the sand and water; F F, wire-nettin g, forming a screen for the sand to pass through;
G G, slides under the netting, which, when shoved in, shut up the opening, so that the sand may pass over and out at some other opening, so as to place it wherever wanted;
H, pulley on the pump-shaft.
The pump is operated by a belt from some motor to pulley H, and as the pump is worked the sand is raised from the bottom of the lake or river, and is emptied out into spout E, and runs along in said spout and through the wirenetting;
The spout may be of any length, and as many screens in it as necessary, so that the sand may be screened and emptied on any part of the boat to trim the same.
I claim as my invention The combination of the frame A, rotary pump 0 D, trough E, screens F, and slides G, all constructed and arranged for operation substantially as shown and described.
HENRY SCHULTZ.
