Description

NITED" STATES PATENT QEEICE.
onsoN s. GoEToN, or NoETH EnooKEIELD, NEW YonK.
IMPROVE'NIENT IN BUGC-V-SEA'Il FAST'ENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,51 8, dated March 7, 1876; application led February 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORsoN S. GoR'roN, of North Brookfield, in the county of Madison and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Buggy- Seat Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the 4construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification,
its upper end, in combination with a frame i on which eyes are constructed to receive the said rod, one or both of which eyes has an iuclined edge, on which the lever-handle rides in the act of fastening down a seat, the seatrisers being also connected with the sides of the wagon by a tongue-and-groove joint, as will be hereinafter'explained.
In theannexed drawing, A designates one y side of a wagon-body, B the movable seat, and
O one ofthe risers thereof. Each riser O has a tongue, f, formed on 'its lower end, which is received into a groove formed ina rib, a, which is secured to ,the inside of the wagon-body, as shown in Figs'l and 3. D designates aframe of metal, and b b two eyes, which are formed, respectively, on the upper and lower bars of this frame, through which eyes a rod, G, passes shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 3. The upper' and lower edges e ofthe frame D are inclined,
and this frame is secured to the inside of the riser G near the front part of the seat.
When the seat is in its place on the sides of the wagon the Hat foot-piece J liesbeneath the rib a., and by drawing the lever-handle c forward the inclined edge e on top of the plate D will cause rod Gr to rise, and thus bind the foot J tightly against the lower edge of the rib a, holding the seat Iirmly to its place. By throwing lever o back it will ride down the inclined plane e, and thus lower the foot J, and release the seat B, allowing it to be moved forward or backward.
The frame D is beveled or inclined onv both edges 6, for the purpose of usingfit either for the right or the left hand side ot' a wagon-seat riser. In other words, it is reversible.
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The wagon-side A, having on its inner side the grooved riba in combination with the `riser C, provided with thetonguef; plate D,
having socket b, with inclined edges e; rod Gr, provided with .bent handle a; and the foot piece J, the whole arranged, constructed, and operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ORSON S. GORTON.
Witnesses: OsoAR M. GoRToN, PAUL GEEsBRo.
