My invention relates generally to accordions, and more particularly to a hand strap attaching means, and the principal object of my invention is to provide a relatively sim- 5 ple, practical and inexpensive attaching device that is applied to the end of the bass portion of an accordion and which serves as an adjustable attachment for the strapthat engages and supports the hand of the player that manipulates the bass keys of the accordion.

A further object of my invention isv to provide an adjustable strap attachment for accordions that is very compact so as not to interfere Withthe free manipulation of the instrument, and further to provide an attachment that may be easily and quickly manipulated to effect an adjustment of the hand retaining strap. 7

With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the ac- 2 companying drawings, in which: i'

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates the end wall or panel of thebox or body that'supports and contains the bass keys of an accordion, and which box or body includes a side wall 11 across the central portion of which passes a strap 12 that functions as a support for the hand that operates the bass keys.

My device, which is designed to attach'one or both ends of this strap to the ends of the bass portion of the accordion, comprises a substantially L-shaped bracket 13, one leg or flange of which is secured to the outer face of the end panel 10 by screws orbolts 14, and formed through the central portionfof the outwardly projecting flange or leg of this bracket is an aperture 15.

Secured in any suitable manner,preferably by means of rivets 16,tothe end of the hand supporting strap 12, is a plate 17, preferably formed of sheetmetal having its central portionbent:v to form a transversely disposed tubular, housing 18.

, -I- Passing throughthis housing and through the (aperture 15 in bracket 13 is the threaded shank 19 of a screw or bolt,-the head 20 of whichidepends against one end of the tubular housiriglSfi Mounted on the threaded shank 19 on one side ofthe bracket 13 is an adjusting nut 21, andscrew seated in said threaded shank on the opposite side of the bracket 13 is a lock T nut-22.

I By releasingthenuts 21 and 22 the screw; 19 thatis connected to plate 17 may be adjusted in either direction'relative to the fixed bracket 13, thereby adjusting the tension of the strap 12' and after proper adjustment the screw may be locked to the bracket by tightening the nuts 21 and 22 against said bracket.

In the playing of accordions, and particularly the larger types which are comparatively heavy, the hand retaining straps stretch and become so loose that the hand is not supported in the proper manner to manipulate the bass keys, and my improved attachment is designed to function as an attachment for one or both ends of the hand retaining strap and to also provide simple and efficient means for adjusting the same.

The attachment is relatively simple in construction, is inexpensive of manufacture, and capable of being easily and quickly manipulated, and is very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.

It will be understood thatminor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved accordion hand strap adjusting and attaching device may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, thescope set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. An accordion strap attaching and ad justing device comprising a bracket adapted to be positioned on the end of the accordion body, a plate secured to he end o t e a d of which retaining strap of the accordion with which the device is associated, a screw connected to said plate and passing through said bracket, and a nutmounted on said screw for engaging said bracket.

2. An accordion strap attaching and adjusting device comprising a bracket adapted to be positioned on the end of the accordion body, a plate secured to the end of the hand retaining strap of the accordion with which the device is associated a screw connected to said plate and passing through said bracket, and nuts mounted on said screw on opposite sides 01? said bracket.

3. In an accordion hand strap adjusting and attaching device, a bracket adapted to be secured to an accordion body, a plate secured to the h and strap ofthe accordion with which the device is associated, said plate being provided with a tubular housing, a screw looseiy seated in said tubular housing and passing through a portion of said bracket, and an adjusting nut mounted on said screw and adapted to engage said bracket.

4. In an accordion hand strap adjusting and attaching device, a bracket adapted to be secured to an accordion body, a plate secured to thehand strap of the accordion with which the device is associated, said plate being provided with a tubular housing, a screw loosely seated in said tubular housing and passing through a portion of said bracket, and adjusting nuts located on said screw on opposite sides of said bracket.
