UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALFRED JAMES JORDAN, OF HAMILTON, ISLAND OF'BERMUDA, ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL STOCKTON WHITE, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.'
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR CLEANSING DENTISTS FLASKS, ac.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,795, dated February 22, 1876; application filed December 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED'JAMIJs J OR- DAN, of Hamilton, in the island of Bermuda, (one of the Bermuda Islands). a subject of Great Britain, have invented an [m proved Apparatus for cleansing Dentists Flasks and other articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawing, which shows a vertical cen tral section therethrough.
The object of my invention is to cleanse dentists flasks and other articles from adhering particles of wax, plaster, 850., by directing upon them a stream of hot water under pressure, which ends I attain by constructing a portable steam-tight vessel, A, with afillingtube, 1), provided with a suitable valve or stopcock, B. An outlet-pipe, 0, extending nearly to the bottom of the vessel, passes up through the top, as shown, or out at one side, and is provided with a suitable stop-cock or regulating'valve, c. To the upper end of the plpe, a flexible hose provided with a suitable nozzle may be attached, so as to direct the stream in The bottom of the vessel is made concave for greater strength, and to receive heat more rapidly, and may be corrugated or have pipes projecting into the vessel or passing therethrough, to give increased heating-surface.
In operation, the vessel is partially filled with water, and heat is applied thereto sufficient to produce steam, the pressure of which will project the water forcibly through the pipe upon the article to be cleansed when the regulating-valve is opened. The apparatus may be provided, if desired, with a gage or safety-valve, which will permit the steam. to escape, should the pressure become too great, or the valve B might be used for this purpose, it being provided with suitable holes, as shown. 'This valve Bis opened to allow the steam to escape when the stream is not desired from the outlet-pipe.
The apparatus could, obviously, be filled when the steam is up, by removing the heat therefrom, immersing the discharge-nozzle in a vessel of water, and condensing the steam by immersing the vessel or pouring cold water over it. I am thus enabled by 'my invention to secure a cheap, simple, portable, and cites tive apparatus for the various purposes of the laboratory.
I claim as my invention The improved portable apparatus for cleansing dentists flasks hereinbefore described, consisting of the combination of the vessel, the filling and escape tube, theoutlet-pipe and its regulating-valve.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
ALFRED JAMES JORDAN.
