I Will describe only one form of holding `device for vironing -board covers'embodying my .invention and 'will then point out the novel .features in claims.

Referring specifically to the vdravving in which similar reference characters designate similar parts in veach of the several views, my invention in its present embodimentl coinp'rises `a pair of members M and M ot identical construction, .and in the present instance '50 each'o'ffthe members isconstructedofa single v hooks 17, and in the use ot the device the exgripping portions of the members.

A number 'otdevic'es as above described are employed at intervals along the length of an ironing board B lto hold the usual cloth or othersuitable covering C thereon as is shown in Fig. 1. This self-equalizing function is also present to a lesserl degree when the ends of the spring are engaging the bights 12 and 12 of the members as the spring ends are free to shift laterally in the bights and the members to rock freely about the points of engagement of their bights with the spring. Y

Although I have herein shown and described only one form of holding device for ironing board covers embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. As an article of manufacture, a pair of members, each comprising a pair of arms connected at one of their ends. to form a bight and spaced` apart at their other ends, extensions projecting laterally from the other ends `of the arms and having vhooked portions, an

or the eyes of the members, or the bight of one member withthe eye of the other member.

2. As an article of manufacture, a pair of members, each comprising a pair of arms connected at one of theirV ends to form a bight and diverging towards their other ends to form a V, extensions projecting laterally from the other ends and to oneand the same side of the arms, the extensions having hooked extremities, an eye intermediate the ends of the arms and disposed substantially flatwise and between the arms, and a coiled expansible spring connected at its ends to the members and shiftable to engage its ends with the bights formed at the juncture of the arms of the members, or the eyes of the members, or the bight of'one member and the eye of the other member. v

3. As an article ofmanufacture, a pair of members `each of which is constructed from a single length of wire bent between its ends into the form of a V to provide a pair of arms and a connecting bight, the free ends of the arms being bent laterally to one and the same side thereof to form substantially right angular extensions having their extremities bent to form hooks, one of the arms being curled upon itself intermediate its ends to provide an eye between and substantially in the plane of the arms, and a coiled expansible spring connected at its ends to the members and shiftable to engage vitsends with the bights of the members, or the-eyes of the members,

or the bight of one member and the eye of the other member.

4. In a holding device of the character described, a member comprising a pair of arms connected at one of their ends to form a bight and spaced apart at their other ends, lateral extensions on said other ends of the arms, and an eye intermediate the ends of the arms. n

5. In a holding device of the character described, a member comprising a pair ofV arms connected at one of their ends to form a bright and diverging towards their other ends, lateral extensions on said other ends of the arms projecting from one and the same side of the latter, the extremities of said extensions having hooks, and an eye intermediate the en'ds of the arms and disposed between and substantially in the plane of the arms.

6. In a holding device, a member `constructed from a single lengthof wire to'provide a pair of arms connected at one of their ends to form a bight and diverging towards their other ends, said other ends-of the arms being bent laterally to one an'd the same side of the arms to form extensions, the extremities of which are bent to provide hooks, and one of said arms being bent upon itself intermediate its ends to form an eye disposed between the arms.
