PRESS FOR PAPER TABLETS Filed May 10. 1926 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 JiarzZeyJf 'errz'e INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 5, 1929 STANLEY S. GERRIE, OF SAULT STE. MARIE, MICHIGAN- PRESS FOR PAPER .TABLE'IS Application filed May 10,
The object of this invention is to provide a press for holding sheets of paper in the form of pads or tablets while adhesive mate rial is applied to one edge thereof.
A further object is to provide a press comprising a main frame, a platform on which the sheets are to be assembled, in tablet form, a series of vertically movable plates or platens carried by screws, suitably mounted, a vertical element slidable longitudinally of the edge of the platform, with means for retaining the slidable element in any desired position.
A further object is to provide particular means for mounting a receptacle for the adhesive material to be employed.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application,
Figure 1 is a view of the press in side elevation.
Figure 2 is a View in top plan. Figure 8 is a horizontal section on line 33 of Figure 1, it being assumed that the glue receptacle 38 has been swung to an outer position.
Figure 4-is a vertical transverse section. A main frame includes corner elements .35 constituting standards and designated 10, 11,
12 and 13, these elements being of angle bar construction if desired, and connected with the standards are longitudinal bars, such as 14, 15 and 16, similar longitudinal bars being provided on the opposite side of the frame.
Transverse bars such as 17, are employed wherever needed, and especially for connecting adjacent standards at the ends of the frame. Extending across the longitudinal bars 14 at the upper portion of the frame are transverse bars or plates 19, and these are adapted to carry the horizontal portions 20 of internally threaded members, each including a central boss 21 providing the station- I926. Serial No. 103,178.
ary element thru which screws 22 pass. These screws carry the handle or upper transverse element 23, anda plate or platen 24 at the lower end of the screw.
A platform'25, termed a padding platform, rests uponthe central longitudinal elements 15,-and receives the piles of sheets, shown conventionally at 27 and 28. These piles are to be placcd'under pressure by the operation of the screws, and while so held adhesive material is applied to one or more edges of the individual piles. I
A vertical board 30, termed a jogging board, serving as anevening device, is longitu'dinally slidable along the platform 25, and carries at its lower-edge a plurality of engaging devices of hook form and desig na'te'd 31,'the hook portions being adapted to cooperate with the vertical flange of the central longitudinal elements'lfi, the board 30 being slidable in a horizontal direction, by means o'f'handle 33, and being adapted to be secured in an adjusted position by means of rotatable devices 35'each carrying a hook portion 36 -for' engagement with the lower and inner portion'of upper longitudinal element 14,-on that side of the press.
A glue receptacle 3'8-is mounted in a holder 39, having the form of a pan or the like, and being supported in any suitable manner as by means of a T-coupling 40 carried by arm 41 secured to another T-connection 42, the latter having swivel connection at 43 with a base 44 mounted on a horizontally slidable element, hereafter termed a slide 45. This element 45 may be grooved for cooperation with the upper flanges of lower frame members 16. A brush receptacle 47 is carried by T-coup1ing 42, and has an obvious purpose, and it Will be noted that the receptacle 47 r is merely rotatable when the arm 41 is r0- tated about a vertical axis, but the glue receptacle swings about said vertical axis and is accessible Wherever needed, the receptacle being movable by rotation of the arm 41, and the slide 45 being movable longitudinally of the frameto any desired position thereon.
A table or shelf 48 is mounted along one side of the frame, opposite the board 30, and
on an approximate level with platform 25. The table 48 is supported in any suitable manner, as by means of the securing devices illustrated, these devices including a. brace 49, it being understood that a rigid or drop leaf table may be provided.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a main frame, a platform therein, a screw and a platen carried by the screw and movable toward and away from the platform by said screw, a board slidable longitudinally of one edge of the platform .and extending perpendicularly thereof, mounting means permitting the sliding movement, and means for securing the board in an adjusted position.
2. In a device of the class described, a main frame including vertical and longitudinal elements, a horizontal platform carried by oppositely located longitudinal elements,
a platen vertically movable above the platform a screw for mounting the platen and efiectmg said vertical movement, a board slidable longitudinally of one edge of the platform, means for slidably retaining the lower portion of the board with reference to one of the longitudinal elements of the frame, and rotatable clamping devices for retaining the upper portion of said board and engaging the upper longitudinal member of the frame.
3. In a device of the class described, a main frame, a platform therein, a screw and a platen carried by the screw and movable toward and away from the platform by said screw, a table mounted alongside of the frame and on an approximate level with the platform, a board and means for mounting the board for slidable movement longitudinally of one edge of the platform and extending perpendicularly thereof, and means for securing the board in an adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
