This invention relates to improvements in cartons and more particularly such as are made of cardboard or the like and so folded as to provide compartments to receive eggs,- one object of the invention being to so construct the carton as to provide means to hold the eggs in a manner to minimize the danger of breakage.

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

The cardboard blank shown in Figure 1 is scored forfolding on `the lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 12f,--the panel 13l between the score lines 5 and 6 constituting the bottom pf the carton and the panel 14 between the score lines 8 and 9 providing the 3@ top of the carton, and the score line 7 provides a hinge between the bottom and topy sections of the carton. That portion of the blank between the score lines 3 and 1 is out to form a plurality of pairs of resilient flaps '35. 15, the ilaps of each pair being disposed opposite each other to receive two eggs between them. The flaps 15 are hinged directlytogether in pairs, as at and the various connected flaps are united with the edges of .the side walls of the section by means of angle members 31--0ne flap of each pair of lconnected flaps being cut as at 32 to form the angle member 31. The tongues 19 and 18a serve as partitions separating two eggs which may be placed between each pair of flaps of the respective sec'- tions of the carton. When the sections are closed one upon the other, the tongues 18 of the lower section will lie parallel with the tongues 18ka of the upper section and enter the notches 17a in Haps 26 of the upper section and the tongues 18a of the upper section will enter notches 17 of flaps 15 of the lower section. f

It will be observed that the carton comprisestwo box-like sections hinged together andthat with my improvements, the eggs will be supported out of actual contact with the bottom and top walls 13 and 14 of the carton and that they will be supported in a resilient manner within the carton so that liability of breakage during storing or handling of the illed cartons will be reduced to a minimum.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is

1. A carton of the character described comprising bottom and top'sections foldable one upon the other, each of said sections hav- .ing a plurality of pairs of resilient flaps, each pair of iiaps adapted to engage an article disposed between them, the aps of the bottom section having notches, and a longitudinally extending member in the bottom section having tongues passing through the notches of the iiaps therein and forming partitions.

2.. A carton of the character described, comprising bottom and top sections oldable one upon the other, each of said sections having a plurality of pairs of resilient aps, each pair of flaps adapted to engage an article disposed between them, the flaps of both the bottom and top sections having notches, and

a longitudinally extending member in each of said sections having through the notches of the tions and forming partitions.

3. `A carton of the character described comprising bottom and top sections foldable one upon the other,

A carton of the character described comprising bottom and top sections foldable one upon the other and each of said sections having a plurality of pairs of cooperating iiaps, said flaps being hinged directly together in pairs, an angle member integral withV each pair of connected iaps and integral with the side walls of the sections respectiveaps of both sectering the notches in the aps ofthe respective sections.

5. A carton of the character described comprising bottom and top sections foldable one upon the other and'each of said sections having a plurality of'pairs of cooperating liaps, said iaps being hinged directly together in pairs, an angle member integral with each pair of connected aps and integral with the side walls of the sections respectively, the iiaps of the respective sections having notches, tongues forming partitions entering the notches in the flaps of the respective sections, and beveled tongues to receive central portions of hinged iiaps of the upper section.
