INKING APPARATUS OF 'PRINTING MACHINES Original Filed Nov Q 26; 192'? ii 1:5 I' 1: 1| M 1 I LJSLF/ /)/EZZ Inventor:
Patented Oct. 15, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HORACE DRUMMOND BLACK, OF LONDON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE BELL PUNCH & PRINTING CO. LTD., OF UXBRIDGE, MIDDLESEX, ENGLAND INKING APPARATUS 0F PRINTING MACHINES Origin-a1 application filed November 26, 1927, Serial No. 235,877, and in Great Britain December 10, 1926.
Divided and this application filed Gctcber 24, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in the inking apparatus of printing machines such as combined ticket printing and issuing machines, of the kind described in the speci fication of my application for a patent, Serial No. 235,877 of which this case is a division, in which the inking roller and the ink-duct roller, the former being formed of, or coated with, the usual resilient composition and both being of comparatively short length, are arranged in such a manner that they contactobliquely with one another, the effect of this oblique contact giving to the inking roller a somewhat similar ink distribution to that obtained with the lateral oscillating roller in the ordinary form of inking train.
In my said specification, the inking roller is carried on a pivot beneath the fixed revolving ink-duct roller, the consequent pivoting movement of the said inking roller to bring it into contact with the platen or print- 7 ing cylinder being controlled by a cam, se-
cured to the shaft of the said platen or printing cylinder, and rotating therewith, which operates one end of a bell-crank lever, the free end of the inking roller shaft being carried in a slot provided in the other end of the said bell-crank lever.
According to the present invention, the inking roller is arranged in continuous con- Serial No. 314,817.
arrangement or" the ink-duct roller a, it will be understood that the ink from the ink-duct 0 will be distributed on the inking roller 03 in a manner similar to that described in my specification hereinbetore referred to and transierred by the latter roller to the printing cylinder.
Claim:
An inking device for the printing cylinder of a printing machine, comprising an inking roller having a resilient surface, an ink-duct, and an ink-duct roller in permanent contact with the said inking roller but arranged obliquely thereto, the said inking roller be ing also arranged in permanent contact with the printing cylinder.
HORACE DRUMMOND BLACK.
tact with the printing cylinder and the inkduct roller, the latter being mounted obliquely relative to the inking roller. I
In order that the invention may be fully understood I will now describe it by reference tothe accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation illustrating the improvements in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereofi a is the ink-duct roller, revolving on the spindle b, and 0 is the ink-duct. d is the inking roller which revolves on the spindle e, and g is the printing cylinder mounted on the spindle h, the three spindles Z), 6 and h being mounted in the framing z. The said inking roller ai is arranged between the printing cylinder 9 and the ink-duct roller a, the latter being arranged obliquely with respect to the said inking roller. By this oblique
