D. RUSSELL 'T. lj7 Z,96.7? CDIBINATION CIGARETTE CONTAINER Am) LIGHTER Fi] .ed April 4, 1928 UNITED STATES 'PA TEF' erries 4 DANIEL RUSSELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
I comnmn'rroncresanrrn'conrnmna AND nien'rna Application filed April 4,
i This invention relates to a new and useful: device in thenature of a ci arette container and cigarette lighter especially adapted to provide a more convenient and quicker medium of handling cigarettes. An object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described ofnovel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
F'g. 1 is a perspective view of my improved a device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the cigarette lighter as embodied in my improved device.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 5 is a similar view to that shown in Fig. 1,- illustrating another form of the cigarette'lighter as embodied in my improved device.
Fig. 6- is a longitudinal sectional view thereof. 4
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a further development thereof.
Fig. 8 is a similar view to that shown in Fig. 7 illustrating the cigarette lighter in an open or in use position.
, Fig. 9 is a transverse fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 8. As here embodied my improved cigarette container and cigarette lighter comprises a container 10 or case of -rectangular box like construction, of two sections hinged together as at 11 in the usual well known manner, the front cover 13 is held in a closed position by a clip 14 secured. to the rear section which has an extended element adapted to frictionally engage the edge of the section 13. The container 10 is of well rounded construction so as to provide pleasing appearance and to represent an article of quality, of suitable size or dimensions to accommodate a plurality of cigarettes 15 positioned or placed inn.
horizontal row therein.
' The container 10 is provided with an extended portion 16, positioned at one end thereof, and extending from the portion adjacent to the clip 14 in proximity to the oppo- 1928. Serial No. seams.
site portionof the said container. The vextended portion 16 is of box like construction open at one end opposite the clip 14, adapted to slidably receive a cigarette lighter l7 The cigarette lighter 17 is of the well known fric- 21, when the said friction wheel 18. is mantially rotated for the cigarette.
' In Figs. 5 and 6 of the accompanying drawing, 1 have shown a clip 22 of spring like purpose of lighting a construction secured at one extremity to the I container 10 in proximity to the above mentioned hinge'll, and extended therefrom as a means of securely-holding the cigarettes, 15 in Iposition in. the said container.
have .also shown a cigarette lighter 23 adapted to slidably engage in the extended portion 17 ofthe container 10. The cigarette lighter 23 has hinged thereto as at 24. in the usual well known manner a cover 25 adapted to enclose the mechanism provided l for the purpose of providing the usual flame for lighting a cigarette. The cover 25 is normally held in a closed position by means of the inwardly extended portion 26 of the cover 25 adapted to engage in an opening formed in the clip 27 secured to the upper portion of the case of the lighter 23 and extended there-' from. An operating button 28 is secured to the clip 27 and is extended therefrom through an opening formed in the case of the lighter 23, for the purpose of permitting a spring not shown in the accompanying drawing, to
open the said cover 25, when the operating button 28 is manually forced or pressed 1nwardly. v
The cover 25 has also secured thereto asegment gear 29 adapted to engage the gear 30 as a means ofrotating the usual friction wheel 31 which engages with the usual ig-f' niter material slidably mounted in the tube" 32 and held in the above mentioned engagement by a spring positioned therein, suitably compressed as a means of providing the lll usual spark for the purpose of lighting the usual wick 21 so as to provide a tlametor the lighting of cigarettes. A plug 34 is removably mounted in the base element of the lighter 23, for the purpose of permitting the lighter 23 to be refilled. It is understood that the lighter 23 may be fully removed from tioned operating button 28 of the lighter 23 as a means of automatically opening the.
An engaging member 35 is adapted to engage the bottom portion of the lighter 23, and is slidably mounted in suitable elongated openings 36 and 37 formed in the support 83 and in the adjacent portion of the extended portion 17 of the container 10. lhe said openings 36 and 37 having their sides angus larly formed as clearly shown in Fig. 9, ta pered inwardly as a means of slidably holding the engaging member 35 in place. The engaging member 35 is provided with an outer extremity 88 preferably formed serrated so as to permit the engaging member to bereadily engaged by the finger of a per son asa means or manually forcing the lightc1523 upwardly for the purpose as above set forth and described.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent:
1. ln a cigarette container and cigarette lighter of the class described, a cigarette lighter of the friction type slidably mounted in an extended element of the said container, an engaging member slidably mounted in the said extended portion and in a support secured thereto as a means of partly removing the said lighter from the said extended por tion of the said container, said support provided with an enlarged inwardly extended extremity adapted to engage the operating button of the said lighter as a means of opening the cover of the said lighter for the purpose of providing a flame to light a cigarette.
2. In a cigarette container and a cigarette lighter a container adapted to hold cigarettes, said container provided with an ex tended portion adapted to; slidably accom' modate a cigarette lightei of the friction. type, said lighter slidably mounted in an ex tended element of the said container, an en manner gaging member slidably mounted inthe said extended portion and in a support secured thereto as a means of partly removing the said lighter from the said extended portion of the sa d container, said support provided with an enlarged inwardly extended extremproximity to a clip secured to the said 0011- f tainer and adapted to engage a cover hinged to the said container, said extended portion extended therefrom in proximity to the hinges of the said cover, said lighter slidably mounted in an extended element of the saidcontaincr, an engaging member slidably mounted in the said extended portion and in a support secured thereto as a means of partly removing the said lighter from the said, extended portion of the said container,
said support provided with an enlarged inwardly extended extremity adapted to en' gage the operating button of the said lighter,
as a means of opening the cover of the said lighter for the purpose of providing a flame to light a cigarette.
at. In combination with a cigarette containor adapted to hold cigarettes, a means of re movably holding a cigarette lighter of the friction type, said lighter adapted to remov-' ably engage in an extended portion of the said cigarette container, said extended portion positioned in proximity to a clip secured to the said container and adapted to engage a cover hinged to the said container,
said extended portion extended therefrom in proximity tothe hinges of the said cover,
said lighter slidably mounted in an extended element of the said container, an engaging member slidably mounted in the said extended portion and in a support secured thereto as a means of partly removing the said light or from the said extended portion of the said container, said support provided with an enlarged inwardly extended extremity adapted to engage the operating button of the said lighter as a means of opening the cover-of the said lighter for the purpose of providing a flame to light a cigarette.
