Description

Oct. l, 1929. p Q HOAG DISPLAY BUTTON Filed Sept. 19. 1927 P Hocp IWL/NMR jr To Aways.'
Patented Oct. 1, 1929 UNITED STATES PHILIP O. HOAG, F NEWARIL,
NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO WHITEHEAD & HOAG- COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY DISPLAY BUTTON App1ication filed September 19, 1927. Serial No. 220,526.4
This invention relates to grinding maproved display button. In buttons which are designed to be used by members at conventions, olub meetings and the like, it is desirable that the name of a member appear on the face of the button worn by him, and the main object of my invention is to provide a button structure which will contain a convenient means whereby a name or other in- ].o dicia may be made to appear in the button at will.
Other objects and advantages relate to the form, shape and arrangement of parts, all as will more fully appear from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3, Fig- 2-0 ure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4, F1gure l.
In the drawings, a front plate 1 is formed with an elongated central opening Q and a rearwardly and inwardly extending flange 3 Front plate 1 has on its face a member -4 of paper or other material suitable to receive any desired indicia, and member 4lis in turn covered by a transparent member 5 of Celluloid or other suitable material. Members 4.- and 5 are both return bentaround flange 3 as may be seen at ca in Figure 3) for the purpose of retaining them in position.
A back-plate 6 has a rearwardly and outwardly extending V-liange 7 adapted to tit under flange 3 of front plate 1 to lock the two plates together. Back plate has openings 8 and 9 register- Y ing with the opposite ends of opening Q and separated by a retaining strap 10 offset rearwardly to permit the insertion of a card 11 between strap l0 and the rear face of front plate l Card 11- 4 is of the proper size and shape to register with and cover opening 2 Rear plate 6 is also provided with a rearwardly oil?- set channel 12 with holes 13 and M at either end adapted to receive pin l5 with hook l6 extending rearwardly through opening l3 spring pin 17 extending rearwardly through opening 14 and with the shank (not shown) of pin 15 locked between channel l2- and front plate l It will be seen that these buttons may be made up with any desired indicia on member l and that thereafter name-bearing cards may be inserted at will under strap 10 so that the name will be readable through opening Q and transparent member 5 it being understood that member 4L- has an opening registering with opening 2 Strap 10 being offset just` the thickness of card l1 the latter will be 65 held firmly against the rear of front plate Altho I have shown and described a specific structure and form of part asillustrative of an embodiment of my invention, I do not desire to restrict myself to the exact shape, v form or relation of parts, as various changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A button having a front member formed f with an opening therethrough, a transparent sheet overlying the front member and covering said opening, a back member secured at its edge to the front member and having an opening therethrough alined with the opening in the front member, and a strap o'set rearwardly from the back member and extending across the opening in the back member and integrally connected to the back 85 member at its opposite ends, and adapted to hold a card in back of the opening in the front member. f
2. A button having a front member with a rearwardly and inwardly extending rim 90 and formed with an opening therethrough, a transparent sheet overlying the front member and covering said opening, a back member having a rearwardly extending V-shaped rim secured in the rim of the front member and having an opening alined with the opening n the front member, and an integral strap offset rearwardly from the back member and extending across the opening in the back member, said Strap being positioned in a plane beneath the plane of the rim of: the front member.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of September, 1927; 15 PHILIP O. HOAG.
