This invention relates to new and useful'improvements in scrapers, and particularly to icli'apers for removing paint, putty, and the One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, isformed' of few. parts,-and which is easy and effective in its operation.

Another object is to provide a device of'this 10.'character in which the ordinary discarded safety razor blade may be used.

A further object is to provide a deviceof this character wherein a razor blade may be properly clamped, and the device "used to remove paint or. putty from windows, tile floors, and the like, and wherein the blade may be differently positioned on the holderso that it may serve as a cutter for twine, for use by bundle wrappers, or for cutting the threads of dress seams.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device with theblade positioned for use as a scraper.

Fig. 2 is a similar view with the blade positioned for use as a cutter.

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device. and Fig. 4 is afragmentary side elevation of the device showing the clamping plate in position as a guard to protect the cutting edge of the blade.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown ablade holder which is formed from a single metal blank, and includes the handle shank 10, and the blade support 11, the former being prefer- 0 ably rolled to provide a comfortable grip for the hand of the user. i The blade support is preferably flat, and is of approximate L-shape, including a wing 12, which extends longitudinally of one end portion of the handle shank, while the other wing 13 extends transversely, at right angles to said shank end. Formed centrally in each of the portions 12 and 13 is an opening 14, and at equal distances from each side of each of the said openings a similar opening 15, one of said openings 15 being arranged in the angle of the plate or support 11, for use in connection with'either of the remaining pairs of openmgs. A uard plate 16, of dimensions approximate y that of either wing of the support 11, has one of its longer edges curved,- as at 17, and is disposed against the support, as shown in the drawing. This plate 16 is provided centrally with a" threaded stud 1 8, WhlCh is received in either of the openings 60. 14, and at each side of-this stud 18 is an unthreaded stud 19, said studs 19 being arranged to enter the openings 20 of the razor blade 21, and theopenings 15 of the blade support, while the stud .18 enters'the opening in the center of the blade 21. A not 22 is engaged on the threaded stud 18, whereby to clamp the razor blade in position. It will be noted that the cutting edge of the blade proects beyond the outer edges of the support and guard, so that it may be used upon a surface to be cleaned. I

When the device isto'be used as a scraper, the razor blade is properly clamped on the wing 13, as shown, .in Fig. 1, but when the device is adapted for other uses, such as cutting t-wlne, ripping the, seams'of clothing,.

or the like, the blade is clamped on the wing 12. This latter is especially adapted for use' by bundle wrappers or dressmakers.

When the tool isnot in use, the guard plate is removed and reversed so that its curved edge overlies the cutting edge of the razor blade, thus providing for the protection'of the blade, and also preventing injury to the f owner, especially when the device is carried in the pocket.

It will be noted that the edge 17 of the clamping plate 16 contacts with the face of the supporting plate 11, thereby-to cant the 00 clamping plate and permit the clamping stud to more tightly press the blade against said supporting .plate, along a line adjacent the cutting edge of the blade.

What is claimed is: j 05 1. A device of the class described comprising a handle, a plate on one end of the handle, said plate having a series of openings, said series of openings being arranged to be registered with the openings of a safety razor 100 blade, a removable clamping plate having integral studs for passage through the openings of said blade and handle plate, and a longitudinal rib along one of the sides of the clamping plate for engagement with the handle plate whereby to cant the clamp ng plate into firm contact with the blade, at
