y invention relates to coolers for drinking waterbf the type wherein a -bo'ttle is inverted on a water container. and which is cooled by mechanical refrigerating .ap- 5 paratus.
The' objects and advantages of my invention will appear from the following description taken linconnection with the accompanying drawing.' l lOn the accompanying drawing, l() designates generally the watercooler. The water cooler comprises three sections, an upper drinking water section 11,. an intermediate machine section 12 and a lower evaporator 15 section 13. The upper `section comprises ari outer receptacle 14 surrounded by insulation 15, within which is a vessel 16, preferably by glazed earthenware.v An inverted bottle '17. is normally placed over vessel 16 to supply drinking water thereto. A severable pipe connection 18 connects vessel 16 with a faucet 19.
In the intermediate machine compartment is a compressor 20 driven by a motor 21 through the intermediary of a belt 22. The
compressor serves tocompress gaseous refrigerant and discharge it into a condenser 23which is air cooled by means of a fan 24 drlven by motor 21. Refrigerant liquefied in condenser 23 passes through conduit 44 and expansion valve 25 and enters evaporator 26', the discharge end of which is connected to the compressor.
The evaporator comprises a header 27 and a series of loop tubes 28 connected thereto. Inside the header is a float which controls vzi-lve 25f to keep a constant level in header 2 The evaporator is situated within a tank o (hereinafter termed 'brine tank) 29 which is in the lower -section of the cooler 'and which is surrounded by insulating material 30. Setinto the'brine tank and accessible from outsidethe cabinet as a whole is a ,5 pocket or compartment 31 for holdin anything to be chilled. Preferably a rawer 43 is inserted linto the pocket for holding material. Such an arrangement may bev used to-freeze ice cubes in which case the m pocket enclosure 31 is arranged in contact with the metal of the evaporator. Brine, which may be pure Vwater or any other liquid which is in liquid form at the operating temperatures, is circulated between brine tank 29 and lreceptacle 14. Circulation is electedby means of pump 33 whichis driven from the motor. Pump 33 y is in conduit 34 which connectsatfone end to the lower part of brine tank 29 and at the othenend to receptacle 14 at the bottom thereof and in the vicinity ofpi e connection 18. An overflow pipe`35 con ucts brine from receptacle 14 back to tank 29. Pipe or conduit 35 extends vupwardly into receptacle -14 and determines the level of liquid therein. -Reference character-2,36 designates an yelecby a switch 37 in-turn'controlled by variations in the pressure in conduit 38 connectingthe low side header 27 with the suction side of the compressor. When the low side pressure rises above a predeterminedvvalue, switch 37 is closed and the compressor is Set in motions-When the low side pressure falls below a predetermined value, switch 37 opens the electric circuit to stop the motor and the compressor. x V

If desired, a valve 40may be placed yin conduit 34v controlled by a thermostat 41 in heat registeringl relation with liquid of 95 the upper-section, as, for example,in contact with vessell, and varranged to operate to give a constantV temperature in liquid of the upper section. This arrangement would be particularly desirabley when usmg different temperatures. l
While I have illustrated and described `one form of my invention, it will be understood .that variations are possible withinvthe scope of the invention. y
Having thus described my invention, what 1I claim is 1. A water cooler of the inverted bottle type comprising an upperA section, an interceptacle in said upper section, a vessel within said receptacle adapted to hold drinking water, means for removing drinking water from said vessel, mechanical refrigerating apparatusin the intermediate section,
`in said lower section, an evaporator in said tank connected to said apparatus for 'low of refrigerant and serving to cool liquid in said tank and means to circulate liquid between said receptacle and said tank comprising a conduit connected to said tank and connected with said receptacle and so arranged therewith as to determine the level of" liquid therein.

A water cooler of the inverted bottle type comprising an upper section, an intermediate section and a lower section, a receptacle in said upper section, a vessel within said receptacle adapted to hold drinking water, means for removing drinking water from said vessel, mechanical refrigerating apparatus in the intermediate section, a tank in said lower section, an evaporator in said tank connected to said apparatus for flow of refrigerant and serving to cool liquid in said tank, means to circulate liquid between said receptacle and said tank and a drawer in said tank for holding material to be cooled.

A water cooler of the inverted bottle type comprising an upper section, an intermediate section and a lower section, a Vreceptacle in'said upper section, a vessel within said receptacle adapted to hold drinking water, means for removing drinking water from said vessel, mechanical refrigerating apparatus in the intermediate section, a tank in said lower section, an evaporatol in said mediate section and a lower section, a receptacle 1n sald upper section, a vessel withinY said receptacle adapted to hold drinking water, means for removing drinking water from said vessel, mechanical refrigerating apparatus in the intermediate section, a-tank in said lower section, 4an evaporator in said tank connected to said apparatus for flow of refrigerant and serving to cool liquid in said tank, means to circulate liquid between said receptacle and said tank and means to control the rate of circulation in response to variations of temperature in the upper section.

A water cooler of the inverted bottle type comprising an upper section, an intermediate section and a lower section, a receptacle in said upper section, a vessel within said receptacle adapted to hold drinking water, means for removing drinking water from saidvessel, mechanical refrigerating apparatus in the intermediate section comprising a motor, a compressor and a condenser, a tank in said lower section, an
evaporator in said tank connected to said Vapparatus for flow of refrigerant and serving to cool liquid in said tank and means for circulating liquid between said receptacle and said tank comprising a pump mounted co-axially with said motor.
