CHURN.
The invention relates to improvements in churns and has for its principal object the utilization of a certain type of machine used for laundering clothes employing an oscillating shaft that extends into the clothes receptacle and is ordinarily employed to operate an agitator for the clothes to act-nate the dashers of a churn structure, said churn structure employing a receptacle mounted within the clothes receptacle of the washing machine, and supported on the supporting means for the agitator, said churn receptacle having a tubular member arranged therein and open ing out. through the bottoni of the receptacle to house the oscillating shaft, and to which the dashers are secured, the clothes receptacle of the washing machine forming an outer casing to receive the churn receptacle and spaced from tho walls thereof so that a temperature regulating medium such as hot or cold water may be employed within the space between the casing and the churn receptacle to properly adjust the temperaturel of the contents of the churn for quick formation of the butter fat from the cream.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and wili be found illustrated in the accompanying` drawings, in which Figure l is a fragmentary View partly in section of a washing machine showing the improved churn mounted therein, the churn structure being shown in vertical section,
Figure 2 is a. horizontal. sectional view ou a plane indicated by the line 2 2 of Figure l.,
Figure 3 is ar detail sectional view on a plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure l,
Figure 4t is a side view of the flasher structure showing the closure cap in transverse section, and
Figure 5 is an end View of the dasher structure.
Tn the drawings similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
As hereinbefore stated the churn is ar ranged to be applied to a cert-ain type of washing machine that is shown fragn'ientarily in Figure l and is provided with a clothes receptacle A forming a casing for the churn receptacle l, having the walls spaced as shown at 2 to receive hot or cold Water or ice as may be required to properly adjust the temperature of the cream for quickly forming the butter fat. The churn receptacle l is Supported on a flange B that is a part of the clothes receptacle of the washing machine and when used as a washing machine is adapted to support an agitating member (notshown) that is arranged to be driven by the shaft C, that is journaled in a bearing D on the bottom E of the receptacle A and is also journaled in a bearing F secured to a shelf Gr supported on the legs H. Secured to the shaft C is a pinion I that meshes with a rack bar J having one end engaging a eranl; K on shaft L that is driven by the motor M by mea-ns of the shaft N through the worm gearing O. It will be apparent that the shaft C will be given an oscillatory mot-ion by the gearing consisting of the pinion l engaging the rack bar J driven by the shaft L, that is in turn rotated by the shaft N through the Worm gearing O. 3 indicates a tubular member opening out to the bott-om 4L of the receptacle l as shown at 5 to receive and house the shaft C. The dashers 6 of the churn are secured to depending arm 7 from a cross bar 8, forming a substantially inverted U-shaped structure, and intermediate of the depending arm 7 is a downwardly extending arm 9 having a socket lO on its lower end shaped to engage the polygonal end c of the shaft C so that operation of the shaft c will actuate the dashers 6, said shaft C giving to said dashers an oscillatory or reciprocating motion. l1 indicates a flanged cap that is slidably mounted on the bar 9 and internally threaded to engage the threaded upper end of the tubular member 3. The lid or cover 12 may be as shown of the removable type or any other type of cover may be substituted.
What is claimed is A churn dasher, consisting of an inverted U-shaped member, dashers on the dependent arms of said member, a bar dependent from said member intermediate of the dependent arms, a socket on said loa-rA polygonal in cross section and adapted to tit a polygonal eXtension on a drive shaft, and a cap member slidably and rotatively mounted on said bar and adapted to close the upper end of a tubular housing for the shaft.
