UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER n. ELsEY, or MARBLE, ARKANSAS, AssienoR To Tin: osAGE PRICE INDI-` CATOR COMPANY, INC., 0F FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, A CORPORATION OF AR- KANSAS.
PRICE INDICATOR. i
Application led November 22, 1926. Serial No. 150,025.
This invention relates to a price indicator and pertains particularly to a device which may be conveniently placed upon any smooth supporting surface to indicate one or more prices of an article, or the price of a single article, or a multiplicity of such articles.
The primary object of this invention, is to provide, in a manner hereinafter set forth, a price indicator holding device which may be easiiy and quickly attached by suction to a smooth surface such as a glass window, a glass container, or a like article.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth, which, after being placed in position, need not be disturbed, but is adapted to house new price cards attached thereto.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the description of Vthe same proceeds. The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed. and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure l shows the device embodied in this invention in front elevation.
Figure 2 is a transverse section through the indicator device, and a portion of a receptacle to which the device is attached.
Figure 3 is a central longitudinal section of the upper portion of the indicator device.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein like numerals of reference refer to the corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, the price indicator embodied in this invention comprises an elongated body indicated as a whole by the numeral 1.
The body l comprises the front wall 2, the side walls 8, and the ends or top and bottom walls 4. As is shown, the side and end walls 3 and 4 curve backwardly from ythe body wall 2, and thus form on the body a recess 5 extending throughout the back thereof. The body 1 is preferably formed of rubber, and the lower edges of the side walls 3 and 4, respectively, are smooth and should be arranged 1n the same laneso that, upon moistening a smooth surface such as a glass window, or a glass receptacle, a portion of which indicated by the numeral 6, and then pressing upon the body l against the moistened surface to cause some of the air to be expelled from the underside thereof, the device will adhere to the surface by suction, in the well known manner.
The front side of the body wall 2 provided with the longitudinally extending recess, or depression 7, at each end of which depression there embedded in, or otherwise secured to, the wall 2, a headed member 8, which member has the head thereof projecting outwardly from the wall, as clearly shown in Figure 3.
`Adapted to fit into the recess or depression 7 in the face of the wall 2, is an elongated body 9 of celluloid, cardboard, or other ap propriate material, upon the face of which a scale of prices may be placed, as shown.
Each end of the body 9 is provided with key-hole slots 10, the relative positions of which slots are the same, that is, the con* stricted ortion of each slot is directed up wardly rom the enlarged portion. From this it will be readily seen that the body 9 may be positioned in such manner that the head of the retaining element 8 may be eX- tended through the enlarged portion of the key-hole slots, and when the body 9 is forced downwardly, the constricted portions of the slots l() will engage behind the heads of the members 8, and the body 9 will move into position in the recess 7, as will be readily apparent.
Although the device as shown in the drawing has been constructed to indicate the price for gasoline, in quantities arranged from one tol ten gallons, it will, of course, be readily understood that this price -indicater is not confined to such use but may be employed in any manner or position desired.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is:
l. In an indicating device of the character set forth, a relatively fiat body of resilient material having one face thereof recessed to facilitate the application of the device to a supporting surface by suction, the outer face of said body heilig provided with a shallow recess, headed members carried upon the back wall of said recess, one adjacent each end thereof, and an indicia bearing plate having apertures therein for engagement over said headed members to maintain said plate in said recess.
2. In aV gasoline indicating device of the character described, an elongated relatively Hat body of resilient material having -rearwardly projecting side and end Walls, setting up a recess throughout one side of said body, the front side of the body having a shallow recess formedtherein, a headed member projecting from the inner wall of said shallow recess at each endV thereof, and an indicia bearing card having key-hole slots at each end adapted to receive a headed member for maintenance of said card in said shallow recess.
3.111 an indicator of the character described, a relatively fiat body of resilient material, having one face recessed to facilitate the application of the body to a sup porting surface by suction, an apertured indicator strip associated with the body, a
Vsupporting stud carried by and projecting from the outer face of the bod and designed to engage in the aperture oi; said strip to support the same before the face of the body, said body having the outer face thereof provided with a relatively shallow recess in which said stud is located and which is designed to snugly receive said strip.
.ln testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
