Description

Patented July 16, 1929.
r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. SPREEN, OI DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO KELVINATOR CORYORA- TION, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION 01 MICHIGAN.
MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION.
Application filed June 3,
My invention relates to mechanical refrigeration and particularly to means for dispos ing of the drain from the refri erated portions of a mechanically refrigerated refrigerator cabinet, and the principal object of my invention is to provide new and improved means of this type. In the drawings the single figure is a view through a compressor compartment of a self-contained mechanical refrigerator cabinet illustrating one embodiment which my invention may assume.
The embodiment of my invention herein shown comprises a refrigerator cabinet 11 provided with a compressor compartment12 containing a compressor 13 operated through a belt 14 by an electric motor 15, having its inlet connected to expansion means dis osed within the refrigerating section of the ca inet 11, and having 1ts outlet connected by means of a connection 16 to the inlet of a condenser 17 disposed within the compressor compartment 12 and having its outlet connected to the inlet end of the same expansion means.
Extending into this compressor compartment 12 is a duct 18 arranged to carry away fluid collecting inlthe refrigerated portions of the refrigerator cabinet 11 and herein shown as terminating in a position to cause the conveyed fluid to flow into an annular receptacle 19 formed surrounding and integral with the up r portion of the compressor 13 so that the eat of the compressor 13 is a plied to and effective to evaporate the fluid entering the receptacle 19 from the duct 18 to thus eliminate the necessity for either a drain connection fromthe refrigerator cabinet 11 or a drain pan below the refrigerator cabinet 11 requiringperiodic emptying.
Fr the abdvj,e description it will be obviousfi'i -thos'e skilled in the art that I have provided new and improved means for dis posing of the fluidcollecting' in the refrigerated portions of a mechanically refrigerated refrigerator cabinet. At the same time, it will also be obvious to those skilled in the art that the articular embodiment of my invention i herein shown and described maybe variously changed and modified without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing 1926. Serial No. 118,471.
the advantages thereof, and it will therefore be understood that the disclosure herein is illustrative only and that my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim:
1. In a mechanical refrigerator unit, in combination with a cabinet having a refrigerating chamber and means to catch and collect and convey away liquid from said chamber, refrigerating mechanism disposed exteriorly of said chamber and of a type having a compressor which gives off heat, and receptacle means arranged to receive such liquid and positioned exteriorly of said refrigerating chamber in intimate thermal relation with said compressor to receive heat therefrom.
2. In a mechanical refrigerator unit, in combination with a cabinet having a refrigerating chamber and means to catch and collect and convey away liquid from said chamber, refrigerating mechanism disposed exteriorly of said chamber and of a type having a compremor which gives off heat, and receptacle means arranged to receive such liquid and positioned encircling said compressor to receive heat from said compressor.
3. In a mechanical refrigerator unit, in combination with a cabinet having a refrigerating chamber and means to catch and collect and convey away liquid from said chamber, refrigerating mechanism disposed extcriorly of said chamber and of a type having a compressor which gives off heat, and rece tacle means arranged to receive such liquid and secured to said compressor to receive heat from said coin ressor.
4. In a mec anical refrigerator unit, in combination with a cabinet having a refrigerating chamber and means to catch and collect and convey away liquid from said chamber, refrigerating mechanism disposed exteriorly of said chamber and of a type having a compressor which gives off heat, and re ceptacle means arranged to receive such liquid and integral with said compressor to receive t:
