CHAIN.

This invention relates to a chain for use as a bracelet or strap of the type usedfor holding a watch on the wrist of the wearer; and has for its object to provide a thin, flexible strap which will be light in weight and comfortable to the wearer.

o A further object of the invention is the provision of a chain which will present a smooth flat inner or bottom surface for engagement with the arm of the wearer and completely hide the connecting frame link of the strap from view to afford an ornamental apeparance to the device.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In chain structures of the character used as bracelets for wrist watches, it is desirable that the same be thin and light in weight and flexible to easily encircle the wrist as well as sufficiently smooth to afford comfort to the wearer and at the same time to be of ornamental appearance to adorn the wrist as an article of jewelry; and in order to accomplish these results, I have provided a series of sheet metal body links, each having arms to extend thru the frame connecting links, the body having offset end portions wrapped about the ends of the frame links to lie lush with Fig. 6 shows a pair of frame links'with a Application led November 15, 1928. the arms and conceal the end portions of the connecting links from view; andthe following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention illustrating the preferred means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished.V i

With reference to the drawings, 11 designates the body link having a top wall 12 and end arms 13 and 14 to pass thru the openings 15 of the connecting frame links 16. In connectingthe links 11 and 16 together, the arms 13 and 14v of the adjacent body links are passed thru the opening in the frame link 16 and folded about the spaced end bars formed by the slot 15 thus providing an arrangement by which the arms 13 and 14 ofthe body link pass thru two adjacent frame links to be folded toward each other into abutting relation to connect the two frame links together.

The side of each body link is provided with an offset portion 17 with fingers 18 which are wrapped about the end portions 19 of each frame link to hide the same from view. The arms 13 and 14 are of a combined thickness substantially the width of the opening 15 in the frame link while the offset portions 17 are offset longitudinally of the chain at a point outwardly from the ends of the arms to completely cover the frame link from the top or bottom View of the chain.

By this construction the chain is made up of a series of units each of which consists of two parts consisting of a body link and frame link held fast therein by oilset portions 17 with a portion of the frame link between these oilset portions at the ends exposed to receive the arm 14 of the next adjacent unit for connecting the units together, it being clearly apparent that the hinging or pivoting action between the 'units takes place about the arm 14 rather than about the arm 13 of the body link, which serves to hold and cover the :trame link.

It will be understood from the above that this chain is simple in construction being composed of but two ldill'erent links which may be multiplied by tool operations in any 100 quantity desiredl and assembled quickly to form the desired length.

The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms ofthe appended claims.
