The presentinvention relates to eommodes and is designed particularly for use by bedridden persons and has for its principal object to provide a device of this character adapted for interchangeably" supporting a bed pan or a spittoon for movement into and out of position by use by a person while resting in bed and connecting .a drain pipe and water feed pipe therewith to flush the receptacle while in use. c
, A further object is to provide a stand for supporting the drain and water. feed pipe in a desired position andembodying a wash basin as a part of the stand construction also having connection with said drain and water feed pipe.
A still further object is to provide novel adjustment means for said drain and water feed pipe by means of which the receptacles carried by the same may be secured in an adj'usted position with respect to the person using the receptacles.
A still further object is to provide an ap paratus of this character embodying simplicity of constructlon, which includes meansfor maintaining the apparatus in a sanitary condition while in use, which ineludes comfort forthe person using the same and which is otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the-same .is intended.

Referring now to the drawin' in detail, for the purpose of illustration have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention which includes a container 5 open at 1ts upper end and supported upon legs 6 in an elevated position.
A basin 7 is secured to the inner walls of the container intermediate the top and bottom ends thereof, the outer edge of said basin being preferably cast integrally with the walls of the container, as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings, said basin having its bottom portion provided with a central opening 8 by means of which the contents in t e'upper portionof the container may be drained into the lower portion thereof. a
A tubular member 9 extends vertically throu h the bottom of the basin 7, the lower end o saidtubular member having a pipe section 10 attached thereto and extended downwardly through the bottom of the container 5.
The central portion of the bottom of the container is also provided with a drain pipe 11 connected below the container with the pipe 10 by means of a T-couplin 12. A control valve 13 is arranged in t e drain pipe 11 for controlling the draining of the iquid from the container. 1
A section of rubber hose 14 has one end fitted in the upper end of the tubular member 9, the opposite end of said hose being attached to a drain pipe 15 which extends upwardly through t e opening in the top of A tubularhousing 16 is disposed vertically at the outside of the container 5 and secured thereto by brackets 17, the upper and lower ends of said housing having caps 18 threadedly ,attached thereto, each of said caps being provided with central openings through which pipes 19 and 20 are inserted and extended respectively thro h the caps at the. lower and upper ends 0f 516 housing.
The lower pipe 19 is externally threaded for threaded engagement with its associa (1 wardly out of engagement with the upper end of the pipe '19 as clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings.
set screw 26 is threaded in the upper end of the housing 16 with its inner end disposed in engagement with the pipe 20 whereby to secure the same in vertically adjustedposition within the housing. A acking washer 27 is arranged about the plpe 20. within the housing to prevent water from entering the upper end of the housin Elbows 28 are attached at the upper en s ofeach of the pipes 20 and 15 for connecting the horizontally disposed pipes 29 and 30 respectively thereto, said horizontally disposed pipes extending outwardly at one side of the container 5 and are secured in closely spaced relation by a pair of clamps 31.
The clamps are connected to each other by a rod 32 whereby to retain the clamps in spaced relation upon the pipe and also to provide a hand grip for raising'or lowers mg said pipe. Any desired receptacle may be attached to the outer end of'the pipes 29 and 30, such as for instance a spittoon shown at 33 in Figures 2, 5 and 8-of the drawings or a bed pan 34 as shown in Figures 1 .and 9.
When having the spittoon 33 attached at the ends of the ipes, the pipe 30 connected 'with the water, eed pipe 21 extends over the upper edge 35 of the spittoon, as clearly illustrated in Figure 8 of-the drawing and is provided with an elbow 36 for attaching a nozzle 37 thereto for extending downwardly within the receptacle.v
A shoulder 38 is formed in the inner wall of the spittoon 33 immediately below the upper edge thereof and the nozzle 37 has its discharge port 39 formed at oneside thereof for directing the water against the wall of glge spittoon immediately above the shoulder The pipe 29, which is connected with the drainage system'of the apparatus is extended upwar 1y through an opening formed in the bottom of the spittoon and secured in position therein by retaining nuts 40. The drain and water feed pipesused in connection with the bed pan 34 are arranged in superposed relation with-the'drain pipe shown at 41 disposed lowermost and connected with the bed pan adjacent the bottom thereof whereas the water feed pipe 42 enters the side of the pan slightly above the I drain pipe.
The water feed pipes are provided for both the spittoon and the bed pan and have coneach of the pipes attached to the spittoon and the bed pan and with the opposite end of the hose extended over a short pipe section 47.
A sleeve 48 is threaded or otherwise fixedly secured on the outer end of the pipe section 47, one end of the sleeve terminating in a plane with the outer end of said pipe section.
The pipe section 47 is of a relatively larger diameter than either the pipe 15 or 20 permitting the same to extend one within the other if desired. The end of the smaller pipe is provided with a nut 49 threaded 'thereon forming an abutment for the end of the sleeve -48 with a washer 50 interposed therebetween to prevent leakage at the connection thus formed.
The clamping member 45 is of a substantially U-shaped formation with its inter-.
hooks 5-3 for engaging the end of the sleeve remote from the permanent pipe. A split collar 54 is fitted over the free ends of the arms '52 having its split ends connected by a bolt 55 upon which a spring 56 is arranged to permit the spreading apart of the ends of the collar for releasing the arms of the clamp through the outward movementthereof.
One of the arms of the clamp is composed of a pair of longitudinally-extending sections 57cand 58 slidably connected with each other by means of guides 59 formed at the adjacent ends of said sections, said guides having a spring 60 interposed therebetween yieldabl urging the sections in outwardly extende relation. The arm section 57 is pivotally connected at 61 to one end of the iutermediate section of the clamp.
The outermost arm 58 is'provided wlth a I proper connection for the receptacles with the water feedand drain systems of the apparatus.
The permanent drain and water feed pipes 15 and 20 respectively may be connected to each other in advance of their connection with the receptacles 33 and 34-by, a ,pipe 63 having a control valve 64.
A shelf 65 is secured to the container 5, ad jacent its upper edge suitable for supporting a drinking glass or similar small receptacle and immediately above said shelf is arranged a nozzle 66 having connection with the water feed pipe 20 through a pipe section 6 and within which a control valve '68 is arranged. 1
The container 5 is also provided with the handle 69 to facilitate movement from place to place.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that the apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention is admirabl adapted for use in sick rooms or the ike, the container 5 being adapted to hold a suitable quantity of water for the sponging or bath ing of the patient and the spittoon 33 'or bed pan 34 may be interchangeably connected with the permanent drain and water feed pipe of the device and moved into a convenient position for use by the patient.

It is obvious that my invention is suscep tible to various changes and modifications in construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
