NIPPLE FOR NURSING BOTTLES.
Application filed December nursing bottles, particularly in a nipple having a rigid portionattached thereto thereby enabling the nipple to be properly fastened on the neck of the bottle without the com mon practice of spillin the contents thereof.
A further object 0 this invention is to provide a nursing bottle to which the nipple may be readily attached, preventing leakage and any unintentional detachment of the nipple from the neck of the bottle.
Another object of this invention is to pro- ,vide a nipple comprising a multiplicity of sections, one of the sections consisting of a stiffening element having applied thereto, va covering of non-absorbent material such as rubber, .by means of a suitable process such as electroplating or otherwise.
Further objects of this invention will appear from the following detailed description of the device and as disclosed in the single sheet of drawings which is herewith made a part of this application.

Fig. 7 represents an elevational View of the neck portion of the nursing bottle in extended form showing the angular positionof the lugs in relation to the top periphery of the bottle portion.
Numeral 1 designates a nursing bottle portion having'integrally connected therewith, a suitable neck portion 2, supplied with a multiplicity of lugs 3 arranged at a proper angle to the top periphery 4 of the neck portion and circumferentially thereof.

i A nipple 5 is adapted to be brought into interlocked relationship with the neck portion of the nursing bottle, by means of a multiplicity of lugs 6, which are adapted to extend inwardly of the nipple and properly secured by means of a head portion 7 to a stiffening element consisting of a band of suitable material preferably a'non-corrosive element, the upper edge of the stiffening element 8 being flanged inwardly as at 10, the flange portion being suitably supplied with perforations 11.
The stiffening material 8 is adapted to have applied thereto, a suitable non-absorbent material such as rubber, which may or may not, be of the same material as the main body portion 5 of the nipple. The applied material 12 may be attached to the stiffening element by any suitable means such as moulding, electro-plating or otherwise, the perforations 9 and 11 being adapted to receive portions of the covering Inaterial 12, thereby materially aiding in securely attaching the non-absorbent material to the stiffening elements.
The lugs 6 are designed having a flange portion 13, adapted to be received between the flange portion 13 and the stiffening element- 8 is a section of the covering material 12 thereby further aiding in strengthening the nipple particularly at the point where the lugs 6 extend inwardly in interlocked relationship with the lug portion 3 of the nursing bottle neck section 2, the flange portion 13 of the lug 6 also functions to eliminate the possibility'of the liquid seeping in between the flange portion and the covering 12, by merely bending the flange portions 13, into the non-absorbent material 12.
The'lugs 6 are further supplied with an enlarged shank portion 14 adapted to extend through the non-absorbent material 12, the enlarged shank portion 14 having a shoulder portion 15, adapted to seat against the stiffening element 8 v This invention provides a nipple comprising a stiffened portion adapted to be easily brought into interlocked relationship with a nursing bottle neck portion, the stiffening element being covered with a nonabsorbent material such as rubber, and
therefore easily sterilized, at the same time, providing a simple efficient means of bringing the nipple and nursing bottle neck into interlocked relationship.
What I claim is:
1. A nursing bottle nipple consisting of a non-'corrodible element having attached thereto, a non-absorbent material, means for firmly attaching the non-absorbent material to the non-corrodible element, and a multiplicity of lugs extending exteriorly of the non-absorbent materiaL 2. A nipple consisting of a stiffening element embedded by casting in a non-absorbent material and lugs extending inwardly of the nipple through the non-absorbent material.
3. A nipple consisting of a stiffening ele ment embedded by casting in a non-absorbent material, lugs extending inwardly of the nipple through the non-absorbent material, means for making a non-leakable connection between the non-absorbent material and the lug.-
4. A nipple consisting of a stiffening element embedded by casting in a non-absorbent material, lugs extending inwardly of the nipple through the non-absorbent material, means for making a non-leakable connection between the non-absorbent material and the lug, comprising a flanged portion extending from the lug and adapted to be turned inwardly into the non-absorbent material.
5. A nipple consisting of a stiffening element embedded by casting in a non-absorbent material, lugs extending inwardly of the nipple through the non-absorbent material, means for making a non-leakable connection between the non-absorbent material and the lug, comprising a flanged portion, extending from the lug and adapted to be turned inwardly into the non-absorbent material, an enlarged shank portion of the lug extending through the non-absorbent material and having a shoulder portion adapted to seat against the stifiening element.
