.This invention relates to feeding devicesA particularly adapted for feeding material, together with a supply of fluid such as water, or water and steam, to apparatus such as attrition mills.
The object ,of the invention is to provide an improved arrangement for introducing water, or water and steam, to the feeding mechanism so that the water, or water and steam, are intimately mixed with the material before being introduced into the mill.

Referring to the drawings, 1 is a casing Open at the top andbottom and mounted upon a suitable 4hollow pedestal 2. A horizontal longitudinally extending shaft' 3 is mounted in suitable bearings 4 carried in the -outer end of hollow bosses 5 formed integrally with the end walls yof the casing 1, each of these bosses also having a bushing or sleeve 6 of lignum vitae surrounding and cooperating with a spiral groove 7 in the shaft to prevent leakage of the water. The inner side wall of this hollow body is providedwith a series of jet openhollow bodies fit in elongated slots in the walls of the casing and are provided with flanges 19 by which they are bolted to the casing walls.
,The feeding drum is offset or placed. at one side of the longitudinal center of the casingso that the feeding teeth or projections 14 closely hug the walls of the casino on the upside but are quite well removed therefrom on the down side to improve the feed action. p
To prevent air binding below the feeding mechanism, the pedestal 2 is provided with air inlets, preferably covered by screens 21, these inlets being formed by enlarging the end walls of the pedestal. To prevent the water iowing with the material from splashing out through the air inlet openings, the walls of the pedestal are so formed as to provide depending` lips 22 which reject downwardly and form inner walls or the air inlet openings so as-to deflect the liquid downwardly at the points ofthe air openings. l
By this arrangement it will be seen that leffective means are furnished for supplying terial before introducing into the mill.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1. In a feeding device` of the character described, a casing having an upper inlet opening and a lower discharge opening, a conduit leading from the discharge opening in said casing, feeding mechanism for materialloeated in said casing and means for ejecting fluid into lsaid casing, said conduit being provided with an airl inlet opening formed by extending the entrance thereof above the inner wall to prevent splashing of the fluid therethrough. v
2. In a feeding device of the character described, a casing having inlet and discharge openings for material, 'feeding mechanism therein for said material, an elongated nozfor discharging fluid into said easing, said nozzle being confined in the wall of said casing so as to be removed from the path of the material passing through the casing.
3.
