SOCKET SET.

The present invention relates to a socket set and holder for use in conjunction with the usual and well known socket wrench set. Each of the wrench sets comprises a handle and a set of sockets of various kinds which are adapted to be used selectively with the handle.

In using the wrench set, particularly in Garages or machine shops, the mechanic quite frequently requires the wrench and a number of the sockets of diii'erent sizes in order to make the proper selection. It is also quite diiicult to keep a complete set of the sockets intact.

The present invention has for its object the design and construction of a holder for a set ot sockets so that the mechanic can take a complete set with him to his location and also to insure against the loss of the sockets in a set. The device as shown is light and easily transported and is so arranged that the sockets will be firmly held in place frictionally and Without a locking device to secure them in position.

Each holder is provided with a transverse opening 8 in which are mounted balls 9, held apart b a coil spring 10, the edges of the metal a out the opening being peened or riveted about the balls, as shown at 11, to retain them in position, slightly protruding beyond the outer surface of the posts. When a socket is forced over the post, the balls are forced inwardly slightly so that the expension of the spring grips the sockets firmly and holds them in position upon the bar.

By the use of 'the device, the mechanic can take a complete set of sockets to the job and is enabled to select the particular sockets which he requires for the work at hand. He is always assured of a satisfactory holder for the sockets which are not in use. The invention is not necessarily limited to exact conformity with the showing and description, but may be varied within the scope of the claim.

What is claimed is? A socket set comprising an elongated flat bar,I a plurality of solid posts secured to one side of the bar at spaced intervals, a pluraL ity of sockets, and means incorporated in each of said posts to hold a socket in position thereover with the socket freely removable fronr'the ost, said means comprising two balls seated in a transverse passage in the upper portion of the post, a spring 1nl the passage to force the balls outwardly so that they project beyond the opposite surfaces of the post, the mouths of the passage being restricted to prevent escape of the halls when the socket is removed from the post.
