The primary object et this invention is to provide a ready means tor connectingl and 11iseonuectingl the suction pipe 011 sand barges and the like so that the suction pipe may be readily disconnected at `the side ol' the boat and placed upon the deelt, thereby leavingv the side ot the vessel smooth and without a pipe extending permanently trom the side ol' the vessel as has sometimes been done.
Another object is to provide a ready seal between 'the suction pipe and the vessel which easy to make and liept in repair.
l`hese and other objects are accomplished by the invention which `is fully described in the following` specification and `shown in the aceompanyine drawings, in which:

The member 22 can then be swung back over the deck of the vessel, the rope 19 being held locked in this raised posi- At the same time the davits 39 and 41() permit the suction pipe to be raised so as to clear the top of the hull so that this suction pipe can be laid full length upon the deck. Thus it will be seen that a very convenient means is provided Yfor completely disconnecting the suction line from the side of the vessel so that there is no longer any danger of the vessel striking an object which will break and injure the suction line.
At the same time the entire suction line, lying as -it does below the water line7 forms a convenient water seal. the suction ot' the pump in operation tending to draw all of section line is simultaneously i the parts toward the hull, thereby greatly diminishing the amount of water which may leak in around the plate 17.

While I'have shown and described but a single embodiment et 4this invention, it is to `be understood. that it is capable of many modifications.. Changes therefore in the construetien and arrangement may be made winch do notvdepart from the spirit and scope ot the invention af; disclosed in the appended claims.
