ADJUSTABLE SEAT.

My invention relates to improvements-in adjustable seatsand has for'its `object the provision of an improvedconstruction of this character so constructed and arranged that the seat member may be readily adj Listed and securely locked in adjusted positions.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying` drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which,

The preferred forni'fof construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a tubular post 5 mounted ngpon a suitable base or foot member 6 as shown. The post 5 is provided with a guide slot 7 in its front face,
and the sleeve 8 is slidably mounted on said y post as shown. The sleeve 8 is provided in its front wall with a recess 9 exposing a portion of the front wall of the post 5 including the slot `7, and a baclr member 10 is secured to the upper portion of said sleeve. A clamping plate 11 is fitted into the recess 9 and rests against the front face of the post 5, a corresponding clan'iping block 12 being fitted to the inner wall of the post 5 as shown. rlhe clamping plate 11 and the clamping block 2 are centrally slotted to permit of the free passage of a clamping arm 13 as shown. 'lhe clamping arm 13 carries a cross pin 111 in its lower portion resting against the outer` face of the plate 11, and a ci'oss pin .15 is seated in a notch 16 in the upper portion of the clamping arm 13 within the post 5, said crossV pin resting adjacent the inner face of the clamping block 12. rllhe arrangement such hat downward swinging of the clamping arm 13 forces the clamping plate 11 linwardly and the clamping block 12 outwardly, thus securely clamping the wall of the post 5 between them. v
A seat member 17 is mounted on the outer end of the clamping arm 18 as shown, and said clamping arm is provided with a depending guide arm 18 passing through a suitable openving in the sleeve 8 and operating freely inthe slot 7 ,f said guide arm thus maintaining the parts in proper relation. Notclies 19 are provided in the recess 9 and corresponding transverse openings 20 are provided in the sideV Walls of the post 5, by means of which the pin 15 may be readily removed and inserted for disasseinblingor assembling the parts.k
By this arrangement it will be observed that the seat 17 may be readily adjusted vertically upon the post 5, the weight of the seat itself serving to cause sulicient clamping act-ion to hold the seat in adjusted positions. Vhen the weight of a ,person is applied to the seat member, the clamping plate 11 and the clamping block 12 are forced into powerful clamping engagement with the front wall of the post 5, thereby automatically locking the seat by the application of the weight thereon. The specific form and arrangement of parts is a simple and effective one for the punpose.-
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construct-ion for carryingv my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, 'therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to f with a clamping arm extending through said recess and said slot; a clamping plate fitting in said recess andresting'against the outer side of said post; cross pin in the lower portion of said clamping arm resting against the outer face of said clamping plate; a clamping block arranged on the inner side of said post, said clamping plate vand bloclcbeing slotted for the free passage of said clamping arm; and a cross pin mounted in the upper portion of said clamping arm and resting against the inner side of said clamping block, substantially as described.

An adjustable seat comprising a tubular post having a slot in one side; a sleeve slidable on said post andliaving a recess in one side exposing said slot gl a back member carried by said sleeve; a seat member provided with a clamping arm extending through said recess and said slot; a clamping plate fitting` in said recess and resting against the outer side of said post; a cross pin in the lower portion of said clamping arm resting against the outer face of said clamping plate; a clamping block arranged on the inner side of said post, said clamping plate and block being` slotted for the free passage of saidelamping arm; a cross pin mounted in the upper portion of said clamping arm and resting against the inner side of said clamping block; and a guide arm depending roin said clamping arm and operating` in the slot in said post, said sleeve being,` provided withV an opening for the passage of said guide arm, substantially as described.
