Description

April 30, 1929. F. HELMAN vGASOLINE: STRAINER Filed Oct. 29, 1928 Patented Apr. 30, 1929. i
UNITED STATES FRANK HELMAN, 0F SCAMMON, KANSAS.
GASOLINE STRAINER.
Application filed etober 29, 1928. Serial No. 315,781.
'lhe present invention relates to a gasoline strainer and has` lor its prime object to provide a structure Whieh may he mounted in the inlet neelr of the gasoline tank in suoli a .uiauner as to he easily reruored therefrom.
Another important ohjeet of the invention resides in the provision oit a strainer ol this .nature having' its parte arranged in an ei:- ceedingly compact manner and Capable of ready assembly and disassembly.
A still further Very important object oit the .invention resides in the provision of a strainer oil this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to inanufactnro7 and thoroughly etlicient and reliable in use.
lith the above and ninnerous other objects iu VView as Will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction1` and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will he l1ereina'liter more fully described and claimed.
.ln the drawing:
Figure l is a sectional View oit the strainer sl1owi`1n=gv the saine in the filling neck of a gasoline tank such as used on an automobile, l11 igure a longitudinal section through lie `'Voilier portion per se.
l?i fr l is an end elevation lliereeii. ane
is a detailed View showing the method el holding' the screen iu place.
gleiei g to the dra-Wins in detail it will he een i at the 1111111eral .5 denotes an ordi .11 ary i 4oline lanl; suoli as are used on autoiuoliiles and this tank is provideiil with a filling' neeli oi conventional formation. lili tnhe "i" has a close slidingr ,tit in the neck G and at its uriner end is reduced and externally threiuled as al: d while the inner end lilureolf is internally threaded as at 9.
i511 tuhular extension l0 is threadecil on the upper end of the tulle 7 and has an enlarged end portion ll which is externally threaded to receive a cap l2 so that the cap may he removed and the gasoline hose nozzle easily inserted into the extension and tube. The lihe held tight-ly in `place hy means of a 1111 on lai threaded on the neelr G and formed 1111 h an intnrned flange l5 lor holding a gaslret 1G in place eireumjacent 'the tuhe 7 on the upper end of the neck 6.
The strainer proper is illustrated to advantage in Figure 2 and includes a sleeve 18 internally threaded at its ends to engage over rings 19 and 20. Disks 21 of foraminous ma- `rauch as in the Afuture terial are secured in the rings 19 by collars :ll threadedly engaged therein and at their inner edges liorined with notches 23 so that a suitable :iinplen'ient may he engaged therewith.
'llie rien; lll its upper end is externally threaded as at 25 to engage with threads 9. Frei-.u the ahoife detailed description it Will he seen 'that when the tank is to be lilled the can lil will. he removed and the hose nozzle inserted .in the extension l0, the enlargement jl i alffordiiioj easy access 1 ,to and the gasoline will flow 4down through the tube 9 and pass 'through the strainer disks 2l. It Will further he noted that hy unscrewing the union lllt-he tolle 7 may he easily removed and when removed the strainer parts may he readily die senihled to clean the st 'ailier disks and then readily aeseinhled.
lt is thought that the operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now he (u. ze agparent to those skilled in this art- Without a more detailed description thereof. ln addition to the practical. advantages hereinheore set 'forth ray novel gasoline strainer is ohriously simple, strong and durable.
l have entered into a detail description of the eonstruetion and relative arrangement of the parte embraced in the present and pre- "1ho1'li111enl1 ol my invention in order to inap -r full, clear and exact understandini? oil' the said einhoiliineut.
li do not desire, limer-11er, to lie understood i conliuin 1' injjrselif to the specific construetion and rt 'aire arraiiE nent of parts i11aspractice of the invention. Various changes and modifications may he made sach as :tall Within the scope of my ii "ention as defined in 111iY appended claim.
FRANK HELMAN.
