IMPROVEMENT IN VALVE-INDICATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. l7l,071, dated December 14, 1875; application filed November 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN SHAW WALLACE, of Brettland, in the county of Athens and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Valve-Indicator, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of a stem connected to the valve and projecting out through one end of the steam-chest, and carrying a pointer along an indicator-scale, by which to set the valve without opening the steam-chest.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation, of my improved valve-indicater.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a rod or stem, connected to the valve, and extending out through a stutfing-box, B,
and carrying a pointer, D, along an indicatorscale, 0, by which the valve may be set at any time without opening the chest, which always has to be done as at present arranged. The indicator also shows when the valve works out of position by the shifting of an eccentric, or fails to work full stroke in case of any slack by wear in the valve-gear.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the sliding rod A, pointer D, and indicator-scale G with a slidevalve, as and for the purpose set forth.
