WILLIAM S. MOSES, OF SAN FRANGISOO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TILTING DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,036, dated December 14, 1875; application filed February 10, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. Moses, of San Francisco city and county, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Tilting Drawers and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement Without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of drawers which are denominated as tilting drawers, in contradistinction to the sliding box or drawers for which they are substituted.
My improvement consists in a novel arrangement of details, which permits of the ready removal of the drawer from its place in the cabinet, article of furniture, or shelves, so that it may be repaired, filled, or cleaned.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A A are the uprights, inside of which the tilting drawer B operates, and O is the shelf above the drawer. The drawer is constructed with sides d, which extend downward far enough to rest upon the floor or base-shelf E. These sides are tapered toward their lower end, so that a limited bearing or semicircular foot, f, is provided at the lower end of each side. A block, h, is secured to the floor or shelf E, close against each of the sides A, and in the proper position to receive the foot f on a semicircular socket, i, which is made in the block. In tilting the drawer to open and close it these feet rest and turn slightly in the socket. The frontand back boards of the drawer extend slightly above the sides 01, so as to provide stops, which retain the drawer in its open or closed position by striking against the ledge j at the upper front edge of the recess in which the drawer is placed. In order to provide for the ready removal of the drawer I make a recess, 0, in each of its sides, just back of the front of the drawer, so that, by adjusting the recesses below the ledge or strip j, the step or foot f can be lifted out of its socket and the drawer removed.
The drawer can be replaced in the same manner.
I thus greatly improve this class of drawers by rendering them easily removable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
. The tilting drawer B, having the recesses O in its sides, in combination with the extended sides or legs d, and the strips j j and socketblocks h, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
- WILLIAM S. MOSES. Witnesses:
