MERRY-:GO-ROUND.
Application filed September 2, 1925. Serial No. 54,111. g
other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device.
Figure 2 is aside view. I Figure 3 is a section on line 3.-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section online 4 -4 of Figure 1.
In these views, 1 indicates a base which may be supported by a concrete base landQ indicates a vertically arranged shaft supported in the base. This base is formed with a raised central part. which is formed at its center with a bearing opening-for the lower end ofthe shaft 2. A cruciform frame 3 is rotatably mounted on the base 1 and said frame includes a disk 4 which has a hub part engaging the shaft. The arms of the frame are bolted to the disk and antifriction means are arranged between the raised part of the base and the lower face of said disk. The arms of the frame each carry bearings 5 for a shaft 6 which has a beveled gear 7 on its innerend which engages a ring gear S'carried by the base 1. A frame 9 is carried by each arm of the frame 3, this frame 9 being somewhat similarto a bicycle frame and includes the handle bars 10 and the seat 11. A pedal shaft 12 is arrangedin each frame 9, and'this shaft carries a sprocket 13 over which passes a chain 14 which also passes over a sprocket V 15 on the shaft 6 of the frame. Brace bars 16 extend from a bracket-17 on the top of the shaft 2 to the armsof the frame 3, these are having turnbuckles 18 therein so that they can be adjusted to their length.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that when the pedal shafts are rotated by the occupants of the seats 11, the shafts 6 will be rotated so that the gears 7 will be caused to, roll upon the ring gear 8 on the base 1- and thus the frame 3 will be revolved. The
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I I desireit to be understood that I may make changes in theconstruction and in the combinationand arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim. lVhatI claim is:- An amusement device comprising a circular base having a centrally arranged raised portion thereon and a ring gear at its 3eriphery,said raised part having a bearing opening at its center, a shaft having its lower end engaging said opening, a disk having a hub part through which the shaft passes, anti-friction meansbetween the raised part of the base and the lower face of the disk, at cruciform frame fastened to the disk, bearing members on the lower face each arm of the frame, a shaft ournaled in each set of bearingmembers, a. gear on the inner end of each shaft meshing with the ring gearon the base, a' sprocket. on the outer end of each shaft, an'upright frame.
supported on the outer end" of each arm of the cruciform frameand including a seat, handle bars and a pedal shaft, a sprocket on each pedal shaft, a chain passing over the sprocket on each pedal shaft and over i each of the before mentioned sprockets and. brace means connecting theflarms of the cruciform frame with the upper. end of the shaft. r
V In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
