Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
MARIA E. WHITESIDE, OF POLO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DISH-WASHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent Nol70,923, dated December 7, 1875; application filed September 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARIA E. WHITESIDE, of P010, in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish -Washers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a box for draining dishes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-- Figure l is a plan view of my dish-drainer with the cover on. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the cover off. Fig. 3 is a section through the line aas, Fig. l.
A represents a box of suitable dimensions, made water-tight, and supported in an inclined position on legs B B. Under the lower end of the box is a receiver, G, into which the water from the dishes runs through perforations a in the bottom of the box. The receiver O is provided with a suitable outlet, 1), to draw oif the water accumulated therein. On the bottom of the box 0 are longitudinal cleats, d d, and also short transverse cleats e e, which form rests, against which the dishes are placed. In the corners of the box are rings f, or their equivalent, to form holders for spoons.
The dishes are to be washed in the usual manner, and then placed in the box A, when the water will soon drain off and the dishes become dry, thus saving the time and laborof wiping, as well asthe expense of towels and the trouble of washing said towels.
The box is covered by a wire-cloth cover, D, which is, around its edges, provided with a sheet-metal rim, E, to fit in grooves made in the edges of the sides of the box, thus eflt'ect' ually excluding flies.
The legs 13 may be dispensed with, when the receiver 0 may form the support of the box at the lower end, and a cleat of suitable thickness the support at the upper end.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The inclined box A, provided with perforations a, cleats d e, and rings f, and having the receiver 0 attached to its under side, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The wire-cloth coverD, provided with sheetmetal rim E, in combination with the grooved sides of the dish-drainer box A, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARIA E. WHITESIDE.
