Definitions
- This invention relates to a double hook which is mainly designed for fastening the side chains of an anti-skid device together, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the chains can be easily and quickly attached to and detached from the device and after being attached, the strain exerted on the device by the tension of the side chain will act to hold the parts in operative position so that there is no danger of the parts becoming detached.

ANTISKID-CHAIN HOOK.
Application filed september 19, 19%. serial No. 306,910.
-This invention relates to a double hook which is mainly designed for fastening the side chains of an anti-skid device together, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the chains can be easily and quickly attached to and detached from the device and after being attached, the strain exerted on the device by the tension of the side chain will act to hold the parts in operative position so that there is no danger of the parts becoming detached.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout'the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing the device in use for connecting together the ends of a side chain.

Figure 3 is a view of the device in inoperative position.

In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the body of the device which is formed with a stationary hook 2 at each end thereof, these hooks being ofbut half the thickness of the body, with their inner faces flat. That edge of the body which is adjacent the mouths of the hooks is formed with a longitudinally extending recess 3, the recess being divided into two parts by a V-shaped part 4 which is of substantially the same thickness as the depth of the recess, with the outer face of the part 4 forming a continuation of one face of the body. A movable book 5 is pivoted in the inner end of each part of the recess and the inner face of each movable hook is flat so that when the hooks are in operative position, their fiat faces will engage the flat faces of the stationary hooks 2. The mouths of these hooks 5 are pivotally arranged with respect to the mouths of the hooks 2 so that each set of the hooks E Iand 5 will form a closed ring when the hooks 5 are swung over the hooks 2, asclearly shown in Figure 1. The shanks of the hooks 5 are formed with flat edges 6 which will engage the inner wall of the recess when the hooks 5 are in closed position and portions of the outer edges of the shanks of the hooks 5 will engage the projection. or part a when the hooks are in open position.
As will be seen, when the hooks 5 are in closed position, the links 7 of the side chain or other chain, the ends of which. are to be connected together, will act to hold the hooks 5 in closed or operative position so that there is no danger of the parts becoming separated as ion as there is a strain on the chain.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
Itis to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall with in the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A fastener of the class described comprising a body having a hook at each end thereof, the hooks being formed integral with the body, said hooks being of half the thickness of the body with their inner faces fiat, a pair of hooks pivoted to one edge of the body and having their mouths arranged opposite the mouths of the other hooks, said pivoted hooks having flat inner faces for engaging the flat faces of the other hooks when the pivoted hooks are in closed position.
A fastener of the class described comprising a body having a hook at each. end thereof, the hooks being formed integral with the body, said hooks being of half the thick ness of the body with their inner faces flat, apair of hooks pivoted to one edge of the body and having their mouths arranged opposite the mouths of the other hooks, said pivoted. hooks having flat inner faces for engaging the flat faces of the other hooks when the pivoted hooks are in closed position and means for limiting the outward movement of the pivoted hooks.
3. A fastening device of the class described comprising body having a hook at each end thereof, said, hook being of half the thickness "of the body with its inner face fiat, that edge of the body adjacent the mouths of the hooks 'beingrecessed longitudinally with a projection, said pivoted hooks having their mouths arranged opposite the mouths of the other hooks and having flat inner faces for engaging the flat faces of the other hooks when the pivoted hooks are in closed position.
