VENDING MACHINE.
. Application filed na c11'24, 1e27. Serial no. 1755237.;
The general object of this invention is to provide a vending machine in which all the various articles to be vended are displayed fully so that quite large-assortment of articles will be presented to the notice of in tended purchasers and a further object is to provide a machine of this character with very simple means whereby the articles may .bcejected one at a t me through the rear of the machine so that the vendor can receive the article and hand it to the purchaser.
. Other objects have to do withthe details and arrangementsot parts as will appear more fully hereinafter.
' My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings wherein Figure l is a vertical sectional view ofa vendingand disp ay case constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1. V
Figure 8 is a section on line 33 of ure 2.
Figure 41 is a perspective View of one "of the operating levers.
Fig-
lteterring to the drawings, 10 designates.
a more or less ornamental base which ex;- tcnds around three sides of the machine that is across the front and the ends. Supported on this base above the bottom thereof is a floor 11- which is also somewhat lower than the top of this base. This iloor is formed with transversely extending grooves 12 open at the front thereof but closed at the rear by means or the mouldingll. Disposed above the base and many desired spaced relation thereto is a top 15 having grooves 16 to receive the vertical glass partitions 17 whose lower ends are disposed within said grooves. The end walls of the vending machine which are designated 18 are also of glass as is the front wall 19. These end walls rest upon the floor and at their upper ends are disposed in grooves 16 and the top 15. This top is rigidly secured to the base by the vertically extending rods 20- disvposed at the corners of the display casing proper, these rods extending downward. through the floor 13 through recesses. 21
formed in theend walls of the base at the corners thereof T'hese.recesse.s also support the ends of a g ass plate 22 which forms the rear of the display compartment and has its lower edge supported in proper spaced relation to the floor so as to, permit an article to be discharged from any one of the'compartmen'ts denned by the partitions 1'? upper end of this glass plate 22 is held by a latch 23 which is movable upward into a The slight recess 2 1 in the end face of the top so as to permit the glass plate 22 to be removed and the article-containing spaces filled. At-
tached to the base in any suitable manner and extending longitudinally thereof are three frame members 25, 26 and 2?; These are held in spaced relation to each other bymeans of the transverse mem ers 28. EX-
tending through the member 28 is a pivot rod 29'and upon this'pivot rod are mounted a plurality of actuated levers 30, one for each of the compartments defined by the partition 17. Operating through the mem-. here 26 and 27 are actuating rods 31 having.
push buttons 31 on their rear ends. Each of the levers 30 is cleft as at 32 upon itslow-' or end and each rod 31 extends into the cleft portion of the corresponding lever and is. pivotally engaged therewith by means of a pin 33. The opposite end of each lever is cleft as at 34: and a contract-ilespring 35 is engaged at its upper end in this cleft 34 and attached thereto by a pin or other suitable means, the other end of this spring being attached to the longitudinalmember 25. Thus the upper end of the lever is held reracted and the lower end oi. the lever forced against the member 26 by the corresponding spring 35. The floor 11 has its rear edge spaced from the upper ends of these levers 30 so that by forcing inward onthe buttons 31 the levers may be projected against theaction of the springs to eject articles from the article compartments, the action of each lever being sutiicient'to cause the sutiicient projection of the article beyond therear edge of the floor 11 so that the article may be grasped and withdrawn. The frame formed by the members 25, 26, 27 and 28 is engaged with the floor and the base in any suitable manner and preferably the base is provided with cushioned feetso that the dispensing device will not mar a show case.
The operation of this mechanismwill be obvious from what has gone before. Whenever an article is to be vende'd, the proper button 31 is pushed inward which causes the following movement of the corresponding lever and the ejection of the article to the dealer. All of the parts of this vending 0r dispensing machine except the glass plate may be made oi wood, metal or any ot ier suitable material and this is particularly true of the ejectors. Machines of this character may be used for packages of gum, mints, fruit drops, cigarettes, tobacco, handkerchiefs, tooth brushes, harmonious, razor blades, and all small standard sized packages of merchand e. Oi? course, the display case orvending machine may be made of dill'erent sizes with different sized compartincnts for the various articles to be vended and obviously minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended space behind the floor and directly engaging the article to be vended, springs retracting the upper ends of these levers and a series of plungers disposed below the floor operatively engaged at their inner edge'with the lower ends otthe levers and disposed in a horizontal plane, each of said plunger-s having a head at its rear end whereby it may be actuated.
2. A vending and display machine ofthe character described including a hollow base, an a hole supporting floor V mounted upon the base, a top supported in spaced relation to the base, vertical glass'partitions resting at their lower ends upon said lioor andat their upper ends engagingsaid top, a trans parent front Wall operatively engaging the base and top, a rear wall extending downwaro from the top'nearly to the floor, said floor having its forward edge disposedeven with said front wall but its rear end terminating short of the rear wall and located below the same, a frame supported within the hollow base, a plurality of levers pivotally mounted upon the trame, there being a lever for each compartment, each lever at its upper end projecting slightly above the floor and into the space behind the rear edge of the floor of the corresponding compartment and pivotally engaging the article to' be vended, springs engaged with said frame and with the upper ends of the leversand acting to retract the levers, and avseries of plungers mounted in said frame and engaging the lower ends of the levers and whereby any one of said levers may be operated;
In testimony whereof I hereuntoaflix my 1 signature.
