unirev MES TAOFFICE-Q WILLIAM C. HERBERT, OF NEW YORK, N.v Y.
GARMENT sUProRTER.
l Application filed July 2'5, 1925. Serial No. 46309?.A
This invention relates to supports for trousers or skirts, though it is noted that the invention isv not limited to supports for these particularl garments, noi' in some respects even to garment supports.
The inventive features for the accomplishment of the objects mentioned below are 'shown herein in connection with an improved garment support which, briefly stated, includes a body encircling means; upwardly extended supports having the lower part supported on said means; `and means whereby trousers are supported on the upper ends of the supports.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which will support the waist of the garment well above the'hip line of the wearer.'
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind having thebody encircling means anatomically contoured and very comfortable in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind in which the supports are removable and interchangeable for different heights of waist line, the ends of the supports being received in pockets on the encircling means' and in the waist of the garment.
prove generally the comfort, simplicity,lcon
venience and efficiency of such devices and to provide a device'of this'kind which is washable, durable7 economical to manufacture and wear and which will not get out of order.
Still other objects of theinvention will appear as the description proceeds; and 'while herein details of the invention are described, the invention is not limited' to these since many and various changes .may be made without departing from the scope Iof the invention as claimed.
Less briefly stated, the device includes an abdominal supporter of anatomical contour comprising right and left members having at the rear and front end portions means whereby the supporter may be adjustably secured around the wearer, each of said members comprising front and rear portions of canvas, an intermediate portion of openwork fabric lhaving its lower edge arched to substantially fitV over the hip, and a hip portion of elastic webbing over'the hips and `'joining said edge.y y:Pockets secured on each member and pockets on any upper band se- ()ther objects of the invention are to im.
cured tothe inner face of the waist ofthe garment to receive the lower and upper 'ends respectively of flat, flexible, upright supports of bone, Celluloid' or the like, for sup'- porting the garment above the hip line.
In the accompanying drawing, showing by way of example, one of many possible embodiments of the invention,
Fig. l is an outer face lelevation showing the Vabdominal supporter removed from the wearer and extended out flat;
Fig. 2 is a face elevation showing the upper band extended;
Fig. 3 is ayfragmental side elevationfshowingfthe supporton the wearer; and I F ig. 4 is 'a fragmental front perspective view showing the upper band attached to, the garment. I ,f .v
yThe body encircling means comprises an 'abdominal vsupportery of washable i"abricV of 'anatomical contouradapted to fit around and overV the hip tofgive comfort and support to the abdominal region and comprising right and left members l() and llfhav'ing lacing eyelets l2 alongthe rear edge receiving lacings 13, and pairs of upper and lower snap eyelets 14, buttonholes or thev like at the front end portion of one of the members and a pair of snap studs 15, buttons or 'the like on the outer facev of the front 'end' poi-f S'il ti on'of the other, whereby the supporter may be adjustably buttonedvaround the: wearer.'
Each of said members .comprises a front portion 2O and a rear portion 42l of one or two ply canvas, or other suitable material,
these front and -rear portions being conine'cted by theintermediatev portion 22V of' ventilating open-work fabric havingv its lower edge 25 upwardly arched to ,subst'ai'itiallyfit over the hip a'ndfext'ciid asfar down as 24 to thefi'ont and rear of v`the fhip, the semi-circular hip portion 25 of elastic webbing being secured at lits uppeiiedge to said n edge and curving at its free lower edge downwardly for fitting over and substantially conforming to the hip, lso that down-l ward movement of the vsujipxorter dueto pressure on the bottoms of the upwardly Lopen pockets 30, later described, of the supporter will'be prevented by engagement ,of said in termediate portion `22 and hip portion 25. with the 'hi y Y pwardlyopening patchy pockets 30 are stitched to the outerface of each lof said members just to thefront and rear of said hip portions and extend substantiallyzto the are spaced apart ner face of the waist 34 of the wearers skirt, trousers or oher garment 1s provided with downwardlyy opening patch ypockets receiving the roundA upper ends 37 of the supports 32;
whereby trousers, skirts or other. garment, and a belt` (not shown), itworn in the belt loops of the trousers,are supported on all sides a proper distance above the hips. Y
vThe upwardly open pockets 30 of the supporter adjoin the hip portionsof the supporter on each side of the hip portions and thereby, and the downwardly open pockets 36 of the waist member are arranged on this member so that when the waist memberiisy operatively arranged on the wearer the pockets 36 are spaced apart and in alinement with the pockets 30 of the supporter, as seen in' Fig. 3, the eifect being that the downward pressure of the supports 32 on theV pockets 30 causes the hip portions of the supporter to bear down on and conformably fit over the hip of the wearer, thus preventing sagging of the supporter at the sides thereof and lmaintaining the waist member and supporter spaced apart on the wearer.
Said supports 32 are furnished inset-s of different length and are interchangeable to provide different llengths of supports for different heights of waist lines of wearers and garments. y, .v
The pockets 30 and 3G are placed on the face of the abdominal support and the upper band 33 respectively, whereby said supporter and band serve as a cushion between the wearer and the ends of the supports 32.
The operation of the device is simple; and from the foregoing it is obvious that it may be appliedin many different ways. A good way of applying the support is first to put on the abdominal supporter'and'adjust the lacings and fasteners to position the edge 23 to conform to the top of the hips. The supports 32 are then placed in the pockets 30, the garment is drawn up; then the upper ends of the supports are placed in the upper pockets 36, and thekgarmentis .buttoned upv or otherwise closed.
I claim as my invention:
l. In a garment support, the combination with amember secured to the garment at therwaist line of the garment and extending around the garment, of a supporter of any atomical contour and consisting of right and left members having means cooperating between the members for adjustably securing the supporter around the wearer at the hips of the wearer; each of said right and left members having yfrontr and rear end portions of close material, aportion of ventilat-ing material arranged intermediately of said front and rear end portions and having its lower edge arched to substantially fit over the hip of the wearer, and an' elastic portion joining said edge and extending over4 the hip; and means cooperating between the first above mentioned member and the front and rear end portions of said right and left members of the supporter for maintaining said member and said supporter Aspaced apart on the body of the wearer.
its lower edge arched to substantially lit over the hip. of the wearer, and a portion of elastic webbing conformably joining said edge and extending' over the hip; and supports lreceived at one` of theirl ends in the pockets of the iirst above mentioned member and seated Vat their opposite ends in the pockets ofthe front and lrear end portions of the supporter for maintainingA said member and said supporter spaced apartA on the body of the wearer.
, 3. An abdominal supporter of washable fabric of anatomical contour adapted to lit around and overthe hip to give comfort and support to the abdominal region and comprising right and left members; each of said members comprising a front portion and a rear portion of canvas; an intermediate portion of Ventilating openwork fabric having its lower edge intermediately eX- tending to near the upper edge of the meinber and archedto substantiallytit over the hip and ext-end far down to the front and rear of the hip; and a hip portion of elasticl webbing iitting over and conforming to the hips and joining said lower edge from end to end. y
