This invention relates to letter openers and has special reference to one adapted for use upon the fingers of the hand of the user; the principal object being to provide such a device convenient for use by one in the handling of mail and small packages of merchandise, or the like, so that the same may be used not only for opening letters and small paper packages, but also for cutting string bound containers and packages.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the further description thereof.
The accompanying drawing forming part of this application and wherein like reference characters indicate like parts is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
1 represents a flat metal band of any suitable material formed of a size and shape to snugly fit preferably two fingers of the hand to prevent rotation in the hand of the user.
Upon one of the long walls of this ring 1 is formed a transverse hump 2, and to one of the shorter walls of the band or ring, which wall is preferably somewhat thickened as at 3 for convenient application of the screws 4, is mounted the cutting blade 5, the shank 6 of which is made wide, flat and arcuate to snugly fit the end 3 of the band, and is removably attached thereto preferably as by the screws 4.

The blade is made to extend over and centrally of the hump 2 so that string or the like, being drawn against the cutting edge of the blade will engage the hump and assist in the ready and convenient severing of such; as well as a guide in maintaining the proper angle of the blade to the edge of an envelope when used in the opening of same. 40
From the foregoing it is evident that I have devised a very convenient and handy device for use upon the fingers of the hand 1 either facing the palm or on the back thereof, depending upon the class of work in which the user is employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A letter opener of the class described comprising a band-like body portion, a hump upon one side of the band, and an oblique cutting blade surmounting the hump and spaced from the body portion upon either side of the hump.
2. The combination with a finger ring having a hump, of an inclined cutting blade cooperatively associated with the hump and spaced from the ring upon either side thereof.
