BILLET-LOOP.
No.17'0jZ64.
WITNESSES ATTORN EYS NJFIERS, PHDTO-LITNOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. D C.
. NrrED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KIRK W. HOLMES, OF WINONA, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BlLLET-LOOPS.
. Specificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 1 70.264, dated November 23, 1875; application filed September 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KIRK W. HOLMES, of Winona, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Key- Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, referencebeing had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification. and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l-ofthe drawings is a representation of a plan View of my buckle, and Fig. 21s a longitudinal centralsectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view'ot' the shank and under bar.
My invention relates to billets for attaching buckles, hooks, and snaps to leather straps; and it consists in the novel construction of a metallic shank to such hook-buckle or snap, bifurcated at its extreme point, a sheath for the same, and a parallel bar provided with a coupling-key to fit in said bifurcation, and a screw-nut, as hereinafter described.
The letter A of the drawings represents a metallic shank attached to a buckle or other like means of fastening. This shank is slotted or bifurcated at its extreme point, as shown on Fig. 3, for the reception of the key hereinafter mentioned, and it is also provided with v a bolt, 0, that passes through the leather when connected, and is held firmly by a nut and screw-thread, as shown at f. An ordinary bolt, however, passing through the shank, leather, and bottom plate, would in some cases answer the purpose designed to be accomplishcd The letter B represents a bar or plate turn ed up at its extreme end, so as to pass through a "perforation in a leather strap, as shown at g The letter D represents a loop or hood, the
bottom side of which rests upon the leather strap below the shank'A, and is held in position firmly when said shank is connected with the bar B, but is removed whenever said bar and shank are disconnected. The method of uniting the shank-plate and hood to a strap of leather is fully shown in Fig. 2, in which H represents a leather strap, and it its perforated tongue or tip. e
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the bifurcated shank A, for a buckle or analogous article, and plate B, having latch y, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the bifurcated shank A, plate B, having latch y, and the removable billet-loop D, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
KIRK W. HOLMES. Witnesses:
O. B. GOULD, O. G. MAYBURY.
