This invention relates to new and useful improvements in water heaters of the electrical variety and aims to provide a device that may be arranged within a water line, adjacent a radiator, or adjacent an outlet faucet of a water basin, tub or the like, and that may be cont-rolled automatically or manually, whereby to heat the water prior to passage within the radiator or through t-h, outlet faucet. An important object of this invention is to provide a device of this character that is extremely simple of construction, and one wherein the electrical heating unit may be removed for repair or renewal purposes.
Further more, the character of the device is such as to permit its installation within a water line at minimum expenditure.
Viith the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel heater consists of a metallic water chamber 5, of any desired ca pacity and shape, the upper and lower ends thereof having threaded nipples 66 communicating with the interior of the chamber, whereby to facilitate its installation within a water line A, leading to a radiator or an outlet faucet within a building. Formed or otherwise associated with the interior of this chamber 5 is a horizontally arranged rectangular shaped pocket 7, the sides of which are in spaced relation with the interior of the chamber, while said pocket opens at its outer end at the surface of said chamber as clearly disclosed in Figures 3 and 4t. Adapted for removable arrangement within this pocket 7 is a rectangular shaped heating unit 8 consisting of a body of non-conducting material 9 within which is arranged a. rectangular shaped ring 10 of mica, fibre, or other insulating material around which is wrapped a wire to provide a coil 11. Embedded within the non-conducting body 9 and projecting through the outer end thereof and electrically connected to the ends of the coil 11 are the usual conducting pins 12 12 surrounding which is a flat sleeve 13 embedded at its inner end within the body 9 of said heating unit, and adapted for receiving the usual ture plug, the contacts of which will engage the said fingers 1212 so that current will Serial No. 277,039.
flow through the coil 11 when the fixture plug is attached to the conventional service outlet of the building.
A mechanically operated, or an automatically operated switch may be employed for regulating the flow of the current to the coil 11, and obviously as the water passes through the line A into the chamber 5 the same will. become highly heated due to the heat radiated from the pocket 7 housing the heating unit.
In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it will be apparent that l have provided a novel, simple, and extremely useful electrical heater that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention, as consisting of certain detail structural elements, it is neverthcless to he understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a water heater of the class described. a casing of curvilinear shape in cross section with one side thereof open, said casing being provided with inlet and outlet openings in the bottom and top thereof respectively, and a rectangular shaped heating unit receiving pocket extending horizontally within the casing, he outer end thereof being open for communication with the open side of the ca sing, the corner portions of the pocket morning with the adjacent portions of the opposite sides of the casing whereby to provide water passages between the opposite sides of said casing and the adjacent sides of the pocket and between the casing and the inner end portion of the pocket.
