COMB.
Apl ication filed April 6, 1928.
My invention relates to combs, and par ticularly to a comb having means to apply an oil, a tonic or other substance to the hair or scalp.
The general. object of my invention is to provide a comb of the indicated character in which the teeth are provided with absorbent pads for the application of the substance being applied, the teeth being defiected slightly away from the general plane of the teeth and on curved lines to provide a form of teeth which may be gently run over the scalp without injury or harshness, and at the same time ata speed and in a manner to apply just the right amount of the liquid, tonic or other substance to be applied to the hair or deposited on the scalp.
' The nature of my invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will more clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accomanying drawingsforming part of this specificasuch as felt or the like.
tion, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of the comb embodying my invention, the section being indicated by the line 1-1 of Figure 2;
Figure 2 is a back view of the comb, a portion being broken out, and other parts being broken away and sectioned.
In carrying out my invention in practice in accordance with the illustrated example, a hollow comb back 10 is provided which with hollow teeth 11 form, jointly, a liquid chamber 12 to contain a tonic or the like.
The ends of the tubular back have capped inlets 13 for charging the chamber 12 with the liquid to be applied to the head. At the back of each toothed adjacent to the point is a pad 14 of absorbent material Each pad 14 has a short neck 15 thereon at the upper end which fits tightly in a recess provided therefor in the tooth. The upper end of said neck constitutes a closure for the lower end of the chamber 12. Thus the liquid in the chamber 12 is readily taken up by the pads 14. through the necks 15.

teeth at the lower ends of the channels or hollow interiors in the teeth forming parts of the chamber 12.
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Iclaim: I
1. 'A comb of the class described, including a hollow back, hollow teeth rigid with the back, the hollow back and the hollow teeth forming, jointly, a chamber for a liquid to be applied to the head, and absorbent pads on the teeth adjacent to the points thereof at the backs of the teeth.
2. A comb of theclass described, including a hollow back, hollow teeth rigid with the back, the hollow back and the hollow teeth forming, jointly, a chamber for a liquid to be applied to the head, and absorbent pads on the teeth adjacent to the points. thereof atthe backs of the teeth, said pads having necks at the upper ends snugly fitted in the teeth, and said liquid chamber being closed at each tooth by the said necks. v
3. A comb of the class described, including a hollow'back, hollow teeth rigid with the back, the hollow back and the hollow teeth forming, jointly, a chamber for the liquid to be applied to' the head, and ab sorbent padsv on the teeth adjacent to the points thereof at the backs of the teeth, said pads being detachable from the teeth.
4. A comb of the class described, including a holloW back, hollow teeth rigid with being deflected laterally at a slight angle to the back, the hollow back and the hollow the general plane of the teeth.
' teeth forming, jointly, a chamber for the Signed at New York city, in the county 10 liquid to be applied to the head, and abof New York and State ofNeW York this 5 sorbent pads on the teeth adjacent to the 5th day of April, 1928.
