IMPROVEMENT IN REGISTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,691, dated November 9, 1875; application filed June 16, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FRIEDRICH GREsBEoK and EUGEN MI'JLLENDQRFF, of Detroit, in the county of \rVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counters and Registers for Games, &c.; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full. clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of our invention is to provide a convenient portable implement for keeping account of and registering games,- or anything to which our device is applicable.

In the drawing referred to, forming a part of the specification herein, Figure l is afront view of our improved'register. Fig. 2 is a front view with a part of easing removed to show the face of the dial. Fig. 3 is a View of the interior. Fig. 4 shows the interior mechanism edgewise.

In the drawing referred to, A designates the casing, constructed like that of a watch or locket, having a handle, a, and ring 1). Through an aperture in the handle passes a small rod,

upper end thereof. Upon a shaft, d, located about the center of the casing, are the two ratchetwheels B and O, the latter wheel being larger than the former. The dial-plate D is secured to the wheel 0, and turns with it. A spring-pawl, composed of the parts indicated byf andf, acts against the ratchetwheel 0. Ptigidly fastened to the lower end of the rod 0 is the pawl g, by means of which and said rod the mechanism is operated, the rod 0 and pawl g forming a joint or elbow at e, as shown. A sprin g, h, attached to the easing on the inner side, presses the rod 0 upward.

It will be seen that the wheel B has the same number of teeth as the wheel 0, and both, being rigidly attached to the shaft as well as the dial D, are operated by a downward pressure of the rod 0.

The front of the casing has an aperture,t', through which the numbers marked on the dial may severally be seen as the register is operated. Thus a slight pressure on the rod 0 turns the wheel 13 so that pawl g strikes the next tooth. The wheel 0 and dial D are also turned a corresponding distance, the pawlf holding them in place, and the next succeedin g number appearing through the aperture 71.

By this construction, the mechanism described being inclosed and protected by the case A, a convenient portable game-counter is produced, which may be carried about in the pocke We claim- The register having the casing with the bandle attached, and the aperture i, as shown, and provided with the rod 0, passing .down through an aperture in the said 'handle, and the pawl 9 attached thereto, in combination with the spring h, ratchetwheels B and G, and dial D upon the shaft d, and the detentf f, all being constructed as shown, for the purposes set forth.
