"COSMETIC-PAD HOLDER.
Application filed January 28, 1928. Serial No. 250,175.
This invention relates to an improved costion 7 is provided substantially at the juncmetic pad holder, and a retaining ring, and ture of the wall 5' with the top plate or body has for. an object to provide an improved 8 of ring 3. By positioning the pressed out structure wherein a. pad may be properly held portion, nib or ball 7 as shown in Figures 1 5 in a holder or base and the base in turn propto 4; inclusive, the pressed out portion overlies e erly held in a retaining ring or ring holder. partially the upper edge of the holder or plate Another object is to provide a pad holder 6, thus materially-assisting the nibs 4: in reor plate, wherein the bottom is formed with taining the holder in the ring .3. It will also indentations presenting retaining means for be noted that the ring 3 is provided with an' H holding apad properly in the holder. inturned flange 9 which may be continuous as A still further object is to provide a pad or interrupted, but which presents a supholder or plate with a. more or less corrugated porting structure for the holder 6 so that the circumferential flange and a pitted bottom. holder 6 need not'rest on the bottom of the An additional object is to provide a pad vanity case l5 holder retaining ring with a supporting In many vanity cases, the bottoms are to flange and substantially resilient retaining curved more or less for ornamental purposes m n and, consequently, the holder 6 will not prop- In the accompanying drawingserly fit the same and, therefore, the ring 3 has Figure 1 is a plan view of a cosmetic pad been specially constructed so as to present a holder and retaining ring embodying the insubstantially Z-shaped formation in cross secvention, the same being shown in connection ion, whereby the supporting member 9 is withavanity case'indicated by dotted lines. pr vided, In addition, the holder 6 is pro- Figure 2 is}; sectional iew through the revided With acurved bottom 10 as shown in taining ring shown in Figure 1, the section be- Figure 3, and a flat or horizontal section 11 ing taken approximately on line 22 of Fignear the periphery, said flat or horizontal ea ure 1. section resting on the flange 9. It is evident Figure 5, part of the pad being broken away that instead of having the turned over portion for illustrating the bottom formation; 13 as shown, and the flange 12 as shown, the Figure 7 is a sectional View through Figure upstanding well could be merely inclined in 6 on line 7-7. p wardly without any turned up portion or 40 Figure 8 is a view similar to Figure 6, but could be otherwise formed, though prefer: Islhowmg a modified form of upstanding allily the same form of shoulder is desirange. a e. a
Figure 9 is a sectional view through Figure Instead of the holder shown in Figure 3, 8 on line 9,9,- Y other forms of holders could be used, as for 45 Referring to the accompanying drawings nstance, those shown in Figures .6 to 9 inby numerals, 1 indicat the body of a, it cluslve. In Figures 6 and 7, alslightly modicase, and 2 the cover or lid.- Arranged in the fied form of holder is rovided to that shown vanity case 1 is a retaining-ring 3 sometimes inFig'llre 3- In this orm of holder, the 'upknown as a compact plate holder. This ring standing wall 12 is formed with an inturned 60 is provided with a plurality of pressed in auxiliary flange 15, while the horizontal por nibs or projections 4, which by reason of their tion 9 is retained but the bottom 10 is pitted formation as part of the vertical wall 5 of or formed with a plurality of depressed por- -ring 3, present a somewhat resilient structure tions 16 which may be round or some other for pinching the holder or plate 6. A specialshape. By forming these depressedv porly positioned holding nib or pressed out portions, shoulders 17 are provided at the juncture between these depressed portions and the main part of the bottom 10. This formation assists the auxiliary flange 15 in retaining the pad 14 in place. The pitted portions or depressions 16 may be uniformly arranged in any desired order, or may be scattered over the bottom in a miscellaneous manner. In either event, the same result is secured, namely, shoulder formations with which the pad 14- interlocks.
. InFigures 8 and 9, a further modified form of the-invention isshown which is identical. with that shown in Figures 6 and 7 except that the upstanding wall 12" is formed with an inturned portion 18 and also the wall 12 is provided with pressed out curved sections 19, thus presenting additional shoulder formations as well as a pleasing appearance to the holder. The bottoms lO in these two forms of the invention, have been shown areshaped except for the section 9, but if desired, flat straight bottoms could be used and the depressions 16 caused to function in the same desirable manner. When used in connection with the ring 3, the projections or holding members 4 and 7 will properly operate in connection with flange 12" and also xnsually with the pressed out portions 19,
\whereby the holder will beremovably held in 'the ring and thering in turn will be held the vanity case in any desired I manner, usually by friction.
What I claim is:
1. A cosmetic pad holder and ring, comprising a substantially pan-shaped holder having an annular flat portion near the periphery, and a holding ring formed substantially Z-shaped in cross section, said ring beingformed with means for yieldingly holder, sald r1ng ing the flat port-ion of the holder against part of said ring. I
2. A cosmetic pad holder and ring, comprising a holder structure having an upstanding flange, said holder'structure having a bottom with a straight flattened portion near the periphery, and a ring for receiving said holdhaving a horizontal top plate, a depending flange extending normally of the top plate, and an inwardly extending flange parallel with the top plate, said flange being positioned to receive the flattened portion of i said holder.
3. A holding ring for cosmetic pad plates, comprising an annular ring structure formed with a plurality of pressed out portions intermediate the top and bottom edges, and a pressed out portion at the top edge adapted to partially overlap said pad plate, said ring being tending substantially at right angles to said annular structure.
4. A cosmetic pad holder or plate, comprising a bottom formed with a plurality of depressed portions, and an upstanding flange formed atits upper edge with an inwardly projecting portion.
5. A cosmetic pad holder or plate, comprising a bottom and an annular upstanding peripheral flange, said bottom having an annular straight flat bottom, and a curved por tion, said curved portion being pitted.
6. A cosmetic pad holder or plate, comprising a bottom, and a circumferential upstanding flange, said flange being substantially corrugated for producing holding shoulders.
7 A cosmetic pad holder or plate, comprising a bottom and a peripheral upstanding-flange, tions at spaced intervals for producing a substantially corrugated effect, the portions between the pressed out portions forming part of a true circle.
8. A cosmetic pad holder or plate,'comprising a bottom, and an upstanding peripheral flange, said flange having pressed out portions to present a substantiallycorrugated effect and said bottom having a flat section near the periphery, and a pitted section within the confines of the flat section. v
9. A cosmetic pad holder or plate, comprising a bottom and an upstanding peripheral flange, said flange having a pressed-out portion presenting shoulders and said bottom having a flat section near the periphery and a pitted section within the confines of'the flat.
