SAILOR S DRESS BLOUSE.

Application filed February .his invention relates to improvements in sailors dress blouses, and has for one of its objects to provide an article of this character with a safety pocket which shall have its entrance opening located wholly within the blouse and which shall be secured to the blouse in a manner to reenforce the lower end of the head opening of the blouse and thus prevent the tearing of the blouse at this point.

The invention has for a further object to provide an article of the character stated with a front reenforcing strip to which the pocket shall be secured, which shall be adapted to prevent the weight of the articles in the pocket from having any stretching or tearing effect on the blouse, and which shall assist the pocket in reenforcing the lower end of the head opening of the blouse.

l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in 2 view, the nature of which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Referring in detail to the drawing, 1 designates the front, 2 the back, 3 the sleeves, 1 the collar and 5 the head opening of a sailors dress blouse.

The blouse is provided with reenforcing strips 6 and 7 which are stitched to and extend transversely across the front 1 and back 2, respectively. The reenforcing strips 6 and 7 extend from the lower portion of one arm pit to the corresponding portion of the other arm pit of the blouse, and have their ends secured to the blouse by the stitches which serve to connect the sleeves 3 to the blouse. The reenforcing strips 6 and 7 are made of fabric, and are secured to the blouse in a manner to position their warp threads at right angles to the warp threads of the blouse. The reenforcing strip 6 extends across the chest and the reenforcing strip 7 across the back below the shoulders of the wearer, and due thereto the front 1 and back 2 of the blouse cannot be stretched to such an extent as to trim its appearance or shape. enforcing strip 6 also extends across the front 1 at the lower end of the head opening 5, and due thereto prevents the tearing of the blouse at this point. The blouse as thus far described constitutes the subject-matter of my co-pending application, filed December 7, 1926, serially numbered October 12, 1927. In accordance with the present invention, the blouse is provided, in addition to its usual pocket 8 which is accessible by way of an opening 9 in the front 1, with pockets 10 and 11 which are only accessible by way of the head opening 5. The safety pockets 10 and'11 are made up from a front piece 12 and a rearpiece 13. The front pocket piece 12 is stitched along its upper edge, as at 14 to the front 1 and its reenforcing strip 6, and the upper portions of the side edges of this and the rear pocket piece 13 are stitched, as at 15, 16 and 17 to the front and its reenforcing strip. The upper attached edge of the pocket 10 is located immediately below and extends in opposite directions beyond the lower end of the head opening 5, and the stitches 15 and 16 are located close to and at opposite sides of said end of the head opening. In view of the manner in which the pocket 10 is secured to the blouse, it materially reenforces the strip 6 in preventing the tearing of the blouse at the lower end of the head opening 5. As the pockets 10 and 11 are secured to the reenf0rcing strip 6 as well as to the front 1, the weight of the articles in the pockets cannot have any stretching or tearing effect on the front of the blouse. The pocket 10 is located in direct alinement with the head opening 5, and due thereto is well adapted to receive a fountain pen, watch or the like. To permit an artiole to be readily placed therein, the pocket 10 is provided at its upper end and rear side with a V-shaped notch 18. The pocket 11 which is adapted to receive larger articles may be secured closed by a button 19 or other similar device. The pockets 8, 10 and 11 extend across and afford substantial protection for the lungs of the wearer, and when desired the pockets 10 and 11 may be turned up to close the lower end portion of the head opening 5 and thus prevent cold air from striking the chest through such portion of the opening.

It should be understood that the drawing is merely illustrative and does not pretend to give exact proportions. What is claimed is 1. A sailors dress blouse having a head opening V-shaped at the front thereof end a pendent pocket stitched at its upper end portion to the front of the blouse immediately below the lower end of the V-shaped head opening aforesaid, the attached portion of the poeket being adapted to prevent the tearing of the blouse at the lower end of the head opening and the remaining portion of the poeketbeing adapted to occupy either a depending position and provideaelung protectoror to be turned up to close thelower end portion of the head opening.

A sailors dress blouse having a head opening )l-shaped at the front thereof, a reenforcing strip extending across and secured to said front, said strip having its ends seeured to thearm pits of the blouse and adapted toprevent the stretching of the front of the blouse, the strip extending across the lower end of the )ITsha-ped head opening of the blouse so as to prevent the tearing of the blouse at this point, and a pocket secured to the ,front and reenforeing strip immediately below the lower end of the V-shaped head
