PROCESS FOR TREATMENT OF PAPER.
Ho Drawing. Original application filed August 18, 1926, Serial 110; 180,070. Divided and this application filed August 81, 1927. Seriallio. 216,772.
This invention relates to the process for making modified fibrous stock and is disclosed in pending application Serial No. 130,070, filed Au ust 18, 1926, of which this application is a division and' applied for in the name of the inventor, David Genese, deceased, by Norris L. Genese, administrator, the bottle cap forming the subject-matter of said ending-z application being one of the 10 speci c utilizations of fibrous stock modified according to the provisions of the present process.
Ihis process involves the treatment of paper, cardboard, or other fibrous stock so as to enhance to a remarkable degree the qualities of resiliency and shrinkability.
The process consists in thoroughly wet-' ting ordinary paper stock or cardboard-with a solution of boracic acid, or the like, and then drying it, referably with the application of heat. nderthis treatment, changes,
either chemical or physical, take place in the stock, so that it acquires the increased modulus of elasticity, and shrinkability, above referred to. 4 I
No particular apparatus is prescribed for carrying out the process, but it may be erformed by passing fibrous stock throug a.
bath of concentrated aqueous solution of boracic acid, and then drying itbetween heated rollers, the temperature of which may be high enough to evaporate the water 'in the form of steam.
-The stock thus modified is suitable for general application wherever paper or card- 36 .board of great elasticity and shrinkability,
of the lid. In the molding of sucharticles, I
the modified stock is first wetted and again dried.
What it is desired'to' claim is The process of modifying paper .to increase the elasticity and shrinkabllity therer v of, comprising 'moistening the paper with a concentrated solution of borac'ic acid, and drying the paper under heat and pressure.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
' NORRIS enunsn. Administrator of'the Estate'of David Ge= nese, Deceased. v
