Description

C. FRIEDRICH BASIN Filed May 2a, 1928 Patented Nov. 6, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL FRIEDRICH, OF LAUCHHAMMER, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO MITTELDEUTSCHE STAI-ILWERKE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF LAUCHHAMMER, GER-MANY.
BASIN.
Application filed May 28, 1928, Serial No. 281,326, and in Germany March 9, 1927.
In basins for lavatories or multiple wash ing installations and the like it is known to operate the water exit by rotating the basin, whereby the latter is raised so as to let the water out. This construction has the disadvantage that the letting 'out consumes much time, the running oil water forming a whirl and firstly pushing against the valve before being spread to the sides and delivered to the exit tube. I
The invention removes the said disadvantage by arranging a rotatable basin so as to remain always in the same plane and open or close the valve by raising orlowering the latter. The water is hereby allowed to immediately pass to the exit tube and runs very quickly off, so that the time consumed and other mischieis especially in factory lavatories are avoided.
A special feature of the invention consists therein, that the coupling box of the exit tube contains a ring supporting a slotted basin outlet and being provided with oblique cam surface for raising a valve axially guided in the slots. This arrangenient ensures the least wear and good tightness of the valve, and as the basin is not raised and lowered no rupture or glaze flaws may arise.
Further details of the invention are described below.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown,
Fig. 1 being a section of the basin outlet with the valve in closed position,
Fig. 2 being a similar section with the valve in open position.
Fig. 3 being a developed view of: the cam ring.
In the coupling box of the exit tube 1 a cam ring 2 is loosely inserted and secured against rotation by two projections 3 extending into excavations 4 of said box. On the plane outer zone of the top surface 5 of said ring 2 an outlet oi the basin 6 is rotatably supported, whereas the inner zone of said top surface is provided with oblique cams 8 ending on abutments 9. A valve 12 is positioned in the basin outlet, and the stem 11 of said valve is provided with a cross head 10 extending into axial 50 slots 7 of said basin outlet and resting on said cams. The upperand lower abutments 9 are preferably arranged at right angles with respect to each other. The valve stem 11 is guided axially movable in a hub or sleeve 13 which by ribs 14 is connected to a ring 15 serving as a screw nut for holding a valve seat 16 in the basin outlet. Said nut is tightened against the basin and seat by a tightening ring 17. Guiding screws 18 are arranged on the 7 coupling box so as to extend into a circular groove 19 ot the basin outlet and hold the basin down.
I claim:
1. A basin comprising in combination an exit tube, a basin rotatably connected to said tube, an up and down movable valve for opening and closing theoutlet of said basin, and a cam adapted to raise and lower said valve by rotation of said basin. 7
2. A basin comprising in combination an exit tube, a basin rotatably connected to said tube, an up and down movable valve for opening and closing the outlet of said basin, a cross head on said valve extending into axial slots of said basin outlet, and a cam arranged in said exit tube below said cross head and active to raise and lower said valve by a rotation of said basin.
3. A basin comprising in combination an exit tube, a basin rotatably connected to said tube, an up and down movable valve for open ing and closing the outlet of said basin, a cross head on said valve extending into axial slots of said basin outlet, a ring fastened in said exit tube, a flat surface on said ring for supporting said basin, and a cam arranged on said ring below said cross head and active to raise and lower said valve by a rotation of said basin.
4. A basin comprising in combination an exit tube, a basin rotatably connected to said tube, an up and down movable valve for open ing and closing the outlet of said basin, a hub or sleeve for guiding said valve, a ring nut connected to said hub or sleeve, a valve seat held on said basin by said ring nut, and a cam adapted to raise and lower said valve by a rotation of said basin.
In witness whereof I aiiix my signature.
CARL FRIEDRICH.
