IMPROVEMENT IN LEDGERFRESTS.
l Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,715, dated October 1l, 1875; application filed y 'August 3o, 1875.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDERICK OLEARY BUCK, of Clearfield, in the county of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Ledger-Rest; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a side View of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
My invention relates to a device for supporting one of 4the covers of a ledger or other large book, when said cover has resting over it a less number of leaves than the opposite one 5 and it consists in a block provided with a number of lsteps or shoulders, one of which may be placed under one of the covers of a book when opened otherwise than midway of its thickness, in order to support said cover l so as to hold the pages above said cover on a level with those above the other cover.
The block A. may be made of glass, metal, or other suitable substance, and its base may be of square or other suitable form. Around the sides of the block are steps or shoulders a, which may be formed by cutting pieces from' the block if the 'material will admit thereof, or may be formed in the mold if the block is cast or molded. These steps or shoulders are of any suitable height, corresponding as near in position, with the pages which it supports on a level with the pages supported by the other cover. The block thus` formed partakes somewhat of the appearance of a pyramid, the apex b serving as a convenient means for lifting and handling it.
This invention furnishes a neat, cheap, and convenient article for the purpose for which it is intended.
It may be made handsome and ornamental in appearance,- and When sufficiently heavy it A may also serve as a paper-weight.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A ledger or book rest consisting of a block, A, provided with steps or shoulders c, substantially as and for the purpose'hereiu described.
